exactly as above mentioned. 120v in the trunk, outlet on auto. It’ll turn on when I walk up to the car and shut off when I leave.

As an added precaution, I removed all the blue lights from the outside and put them covered on the inside (if I have missing bulbs segments of my lights won’t turn on)

going to do it again this year. Last year I had an extra set of crossbars so I ran 3 to get the full length. This year I only have 2. Need to figure out a free way to string the lights between only 2 crossbars at the front and back positions. It’s too long without support and the lights just sway and hit the roof.

Sorry for the potato quality video. It’s from my blink camera.
I am putting straps between the two cross bars furthest apart on my R1S and pulling them super tight… then wrapping the straps with the lights and hoping they will be sturdy enough….

any other ideas to run the lights from the front cross bars to the rear?

Post a photo when complete- I think I am going to do mine today…. If a cop pulls me over for this- and gives a ticket vs a warning, then I think it will be just worth it to have that cop feel like a grinch.

Just glad you are not (I hope) in law enforcement. Putting stupid holiday lights on a vehicle, while some apparently find it cute, amusing, and inspirational, is actually a very stupid, idiotic, asinine, and illegal thing to do in most places thankfully because it is distracting and very unsafe. Only law enforcement, EMS, fire vehicles and the like ( get that through your head) get to sport party lights, and that is so for very good reasons.
Let the traffic tickets fly!
Be a Griswold at your own home where you may not endanger others. It's not as if you own the roads. Don't be so stupid. Sheesh!!

Pretty sure some dim LED lights aren't as distracting as asshats using their phones while driving.

I keep thinking I WILL report this post for being so reckless, selfish, and downright dangerous, never mind idiotic, not just to you but to all the other fellow drivers who share the public road with you. Your posting sure looks hopelessly devoid of any regard whatsoever for everybody else's safety driving out there.
A vehicle is meant for driving, not for showing off your reckless, shameful shortcomings.

Shame on you and all the others who think that this is such a cool thing to do.

So therefore a-okay. What a hopelessly flawed thinking, wow, and you actually are so goddamn dumb and selfish as to post this reply. Unreal.

This must be what your R1S looks like.
Rivian R1T R1S Christmas Lights? IMG_6636

The last thing that I am worried about on the road is if someone has some simple Christmas lights on their vehicle. Why is it so terrible for someone to want to do something that might bring some joy to their life, or even worse, the life of another? We have enough crap to deal with on the daily. I think we can all have a little fun for a few moments. Why be so serious?

I'd argue the contrary.

Maybe all those around us who are watching tik toks on their smartphones will look up when they see something shiny out of the corner of their eye, through the vape smoke, and be looking at the road for a few more second than they typically do on their morning commute!

I totally get being a scrooge when people do legitimately dumb things.
But for real.
This is not the hill to die on.
Let people enjoy their holiday spirit and spread joy to others.
If this is truly distracting to you and yours, then for the love of all that is safety, DON'T DRIVE.
