Has anyone experienced a clicking noise coming from the front wheels or CV joints when accelerating with the wheels turned? It’s most noticeable the first time I set off after a cold night, or when I switch to Economy / front-wheel-drive mode. I have a first-generation R1T, quad-motor version.

yes. Its a known issue. Its the half shafts. Should be repairable at your home by a mech. Its happened to me twice in the 3.5 years Ive had mine. The second time I told the rivian call taker it was that specifically. That way the mech will likely have the parts you need.

Thx. I have an appointment with the Rivian service center in Charlotte for Tuesday.
How long it will takes to fix it - if they have the parts?
Do they give me a loaner, when my truck is still under warranty?

I cant speak for your shop. With that said, its a super common issue. It should be a matter of tightening the shaft depending on your particular year/month built. I THINK, and I am a little fuzzy, but im pretty certain at some point they swapped them out for beefier more reliable ones. But even in that case my mech did mine in the driveway.

I had something similar, when starting/stopping and also in/out of slow speed tight turns. Mine ended up being the subframe that was replaced with the newer version. I made videos of both sides of the truck (with the passengers help) hanging my phone out the window. That plus having the tech take a ride with me at the SC made it not one of those "we can't reproduce it" type things. In the end they had to use the accelerometer listening device to pinpoint it. I want to say it took a week to get it done, maybe two.

I’ve only gotten a loaner once, but was given a rental the other times it’s been at the SC.

Our 2023 R1S (VIN 7xxx) went in last week for the third time for this, planning to have the subframe replaced with the gen 2.

They called a week in and said we already had the updated subframe. So now they’re replacing the front half shafts (again), hubs and front drive unit.

I was not aware that early R1s had the updated subframe. Has anyone seen or verified this before?
