Cool, I’ll go ahead and buy a set then and keep you guys in the loop for when they arrive.
Just an FYI, you'd still need the bits that hold the spare in the compartment under the bed, jack, etc. Without a spare from the factory the truck doesn't come with that kit.

True, and customer service says they won’t sell them and don’t know when/if they will be able to. In the meantime I have my own tools and jack that I can carry.

I almost screwed up yesterday. Family and I tried to go to Gross Reservoir for some fishing yesterday. Due to the construction, the best way up there is through Winiger Ridge camping area. This turned out to be a big mistake. As we came up to a switch back, approaching campsite 1, we saw a Volvo XC90 sideways on the trail. That person was eventually able to get straightened out and back down the trail. I should have turned around then but the Volvo had street tires so I figured I would do better.

I did better. I got a few hundred feet further up the trail but then the truck lost all traction and slid backwards about 30’. It was a butt clenching moment but we came to a rest without damage. It took me about 30 minutes to VERY slowly back and slide down that trail.

We ended up going fishing at Barker Reservoir in Ned. No fishes caught. Still an adventure..

Oh, and after my icy fun, another fella in an Outback decided to have a Hold My Beer moment and try the trail himself. He tried going up 3 times. Fortunately he didn’ damage his car. But still, I did record it for your viewing pleasure.

I’ve done that too but never sliding backwards. Definitely added pucker factor with that. Glad you didn’t hit anything and everyone was ok. That packed snow that has melted and re-frozen a few times is almost impossible.

Anyone have an electrician them have used for installing their EV charger in the Broomfield area? We've used a standard plug for our Tesla, but once we have the Rivian I'm going to need a Level 2 because of the battery size and efficiency.

FWIW, in Westminster and I went through Xcel to get the immediate $500 rebate and had hardwired the ChargePoint Homeflex on a 60amp breaker 48amp continuous load. (Whoever you use, discuss 48amp vs 40amp and proper load rating for the wiring) Xcel used White Star

I don't recall your configuration. Do you have the 20" AT tires?
I can only imagine the pucker factor of sliding backwards on that road in 8000 lbs of truck. I was going to make a joke about Sgt Beavis almost being promoted to Major Butthead, but that would have been inappropriate after all you went through.
Seriously, glad this story didn't end with damage from a tree.

Thanks - I just went thru all the Xcel stuff. I'm suprised they only list 4 installers. I can't decide if doing the "rental" program for ~$13/month and the rebate OR buying my charger and claiming the tax credit + rebate will be better.

I see that if I leave the rental program they charge a $200 disconnect fee and come and take the L2 charger. Do I get to keep all the wiring/hardwiring that was done? If so, that might be worth it because at $13/month thats only $780 over 5-years...

How much do you need to charge daily? A 50 amp plug for the portable charger is much cheaper and charges at 8kw so you’re not giving up much. That’s plenty to go from 30-80% every night without trouble.

I did the $13 rental. No upfront fee other than wiring. (They don’t take your wiring if you disconnect-lol! You paid for that.). Got to write off the wiring cost on taxes which also saves some. It’s been collecting dust however since I’m still waiting for the R1S! ? The immediate $500 rebates comes off the quote from Xcel’s electrician which is cool.

We have a 14-30 NEMA plug that reaches, but it's inside our mud room and a bit inconvenient from a charging perspective. But we have used this a few times when we need faster charging for our Tesla. However for the past 2 years we've used a standard 110v wall outlet for 95% of the charging on our Tesla. I work from home but have starting going into the office again a bit, but it's only 10% SoC either way.

How much was your wiring costs? I know everyone home is different, but just for a baseline. Do I get the 30% tax credit on the wiring cost + the $500 rebate and then the $13 rental going forward? If thats the case, might go that route as the Enel X Juicebox is $700 and it's basically 5 years free cost to payoff.

My subpanel for hot tub needed upgrading to accommodate the EV breaker, but my quote before rebate was $1300 to upgrade panel and run around 80 feet of wire through my unfinished basement ceiling from back of house to garage. So I had to write a check for $800. Tax credit when you file is applied to your actual out-of-pocket expense. You’ll see the first $13 on your next Xcel bill.

also keep in mind I installed this in Dec of ‘21 and went against my ‘21 filing when tax credit was available. I don’t know if things have changed for ‘22 tax-wise—consult your CPA.

I got a few quotes but my breaker box is on the other side of the house from the garage so they wanted $3k-$4k to do the cable run and install. I opted to watch a bunch of videos and install myself with a little help for the final connections from a handy uncle. Pulled a permit and had the city inspect it to double check my work. Ended up only costing me $700 which included a sub-panel in the garage for future expansion if needed.

I am definitely not handy enough to do this by myself. When it comes to gas or electricity I pay someone who knows what they are doing to do it for me hahaha

I suggest calling Aaron at Midway Electric (https://midwaycoelectric.com/). He is in Westminster and is good people. If you call him, tell him Tony says hi. He was just at my house doing some work and I showed him my Rivian now that I have it.

Also, in Broomfield, pull a permit. It is worth it here. I am a fellow Broomfielder and pull a permit on all of my electric work.
