Nope.I think the 9.5‘ cable listed as included with the device is the OBD cable that goes from the harness to the OBD. You still need the usb extension cable that goes from the comma 3 to the harness.
The 9.5 foot USB cable is for connecting the 3x to the vehicle and is required for both harnesses. It sounds like with Lukas harness you don’t need the 9 foot ODB2 wire for power, that makes it a really attractive option even if it’s more expensive![]()
The really big plus to Lukas' latest design is you don't need to run a cable from the OBD2 port to the harness. He has redesigned how power is tapped. Previously you needed and OBD2 adapter and then ran a flat ethernet cable for power over to the harness. His new design cleans up the installation tremendously. It sounds like with Lukas harness you don’t need the 9 foot ODB2 wire for power, that makes it a really attractive option even if it’s more expensive![]()
Lukas designed the harness sold by Comma.ai and revised it during last hackaton. I believe both harnesses will be "ODB-free"The really big plus to Lukas' latest design is you don't need to run a cable from the OBD2 port to the harness. He has redesigned how power is tapped. Since the port is still free, you can still trickle charge through it to offset the vampire drain if you want.
This diagram isn't accurate for Rivian. The harness for Rivian is not 1.5' from the Comma unit. The harness is installed in the passenger footwell, so a 6-7' (so said 10') USB-C extension cable is needed. Also, the harness has been recently redesigned so that it doesn't need to get power from the OBD port. The RJ45 cable is therefore not needed.Nope.

Most of my driving with Openpilot has been at night. It works equally well day or night. Never had a single disengagement. I use it constantly.Have been lurking and watching all I can find on Comma AI for a little while. I am really impressed with everything I have seen so far. What I have not seen yet is a discussion of how well it performs with driving at night. My main use case would be what I did last night. Got home late from a long trip. Had to drive from MSP airport home about an hour and a half on a highway that is mostly mot mapped by Rivian so Driver+ not available. I think from a safety perspective this would be a big improvement. So, anyone able to vouch for night performance?
Yes, the illustration is... Illustrative of the setup. The reason I posted it is to show that the ~10ft. OBD-C cable goes from the harness to the 3x and that a separate 10ft. USB cable is not required since the ~10ft. OBD-C cable is included with the Rivian harness kit. The Comma Power (OBD to PoE) has always been optional. This diagram isn't accurate for Rivian. Well... not the way I understand it. The OBD-C cable is the one that isn't needed. And it is the 10' USB C cable that connects the Comma unit to the harness. But, I'll let you know once my Comma unit is delivered and I have to install it.Yes, the illustration is... Illustrative of the setup. The reason I posted it is to show that the ~10ft.
