Community interest in taking your Rivian Off-Road.

Hey Yall!

I’m gauging some interest around the community about their feelings taking their Rivian off-road. Whys and why not and hoping to hear what people think as I’m in the process of making something regarding this.

I’ve added a poll (hopefully I’ve done this right) to hope people participate in. Feel free to give your own thoughts as well as I think hearing from other owners about their experiences would be good.

I don't fit any of those. I am comfortable taking it offroad and feel relatively confident in my R1T's capabilities, but haven't done it often.

You need a category for "I'm super interested, have done some in the past but not on the Rivian because I didn't think I would do it enough to warrant getting the All Terrain wheels over the Range 22s but then the first week I got it, went trailing around on Level 1 trails and realized this was the way so I need to buy a new set of wheels to get some good off-road capable tires on it and then I'm totally down." or something like that.

Off road ability was very high on the reasons to buy Rivian. Otherwise the generics like Ford/Chevy might have been high on the list.

Never did until I bought this used R1T last July! Already had a few scratches but I still did a full PPF just as extra protection from brush off the beaten path. I did not know it at the time but I just found out mine does have the reinforced underbody which is awesome. I have a spare set of wheels with the AT tires and keep my regular wheels with AS tires for daily driving - learned the hard way that wheels do get scratched up pretty easily by roots and such. I also added the EV Sportline rock sliders for added protection and since my wife and daughter were struggling to get in and out of the truck without kneel mode.
Tons of fun and it amazes me every time how well it does off-road. My buddy who has a modded F150 for off-roading decided to leave his truck in the parking lot and hop in mine after he saw how well it did on our trip prior to this last trip! Definitely get a mixture of people thinking I'm insane for doing it but majority of people are more impressed. And I do enjoy the added bonus of introducing more people to the brand that have no clue what this truck even is out on the trails.

If you read some of the responses you’ll see it’s not “everyone”. Also in my own case I never off-roaded before buying my Rivian and learned. Took classes to better understand proper off-roading. I think it’s a valid question to ask and in my own experience have met plenty of owners who buy it and later realize they’d like to. I see no issue asking….

There's not much in the way of off-roading available around here (Minnesota). Realistically, I'd rather rent a side by side and let the owner deal with the mud and scratches. I have no problem with folks doing it, its just not something that interests me.

Not for fun, just when I have to.
Like when the power is out indefinitely, trees across disabled veteran neighbors driveway too technical for me to cut without accidentally crushing a couple cars, drove across 40 acres of submerged pasture to get to the steep muddy not-a-driveway covered with branches to his back door to get/fill/deliver a 100 lb propane tank. Mudslide across the road the school bus couldn’t get past so the riv brought the local kids home.
There’s enough just laying around for me to not have to do it on purpose.
