It turns out the utility has a program to subsidize (up to 10k) the conversion to three-phase service for "farms."

This looks like a great option so I can install a DCFC.

Has anyone else done such a conversion?

Only commercially. Be aware that the cheapest DCFC is around 50K. I've spent money on less useful things though so I'm not going to throw rocks at you from my glass house.

I just want to install one at my "farm" so that I can surcharge any Teslas low on juice out here in the boonies.

it’ll be a pretty small number! Check PlugShare.com to see where dc fast chargers are in your area.

Bosch/Delta/ABB have 25kW DCFC stations, cost is around $1X,XXX for all of them. I believe there should be more companies selling chargers in that range but have not looked in a while. If you are considering running a station others can use, I'd probably only consider the 62.5kW chargepoint, but I have no experience on the business side of those things.

If I had a "farm" I'd probably go the Tesla destination route and mix it with hipcamp.

Airbnb ran a campaign last year where they gave away 100K to 100 people for 'One-off" property creations.

Hey if you want a DCFC on your farm I'm with you it sounds cool and would definitely be a talking point when entertaining or st gatherings.

With that said it's probably not worth it from a financial perspective. I would take that $$$ and install several destination chargers so you could charge multiple vehicles at a gathering.

no public chargers, DCFC or otherwise, in my county. Nearest DCFC is >40 miles.

perhaps I can be the Stackelberg leader in my area.

I have several conference calls booked with suppliers (just got off one of them). Utility is preparing a price plan to bring three-phase up my road and talking to my builder.

I would consider doing this for my property in WI but I don't really like driving all the way there anyways. I was going to get a plane to make the trip but it turns out I don't really like flying all that much and it would be easier to just light piles of money on fire.

You sound just like the rep from Chargepoint today LOL. They require the property to be zoned "commercial" and the rep doesn't know if "agricultural" counts as commercial (smh).

Chargepoint does have a 19.2kW option that requires three-phase and prices out at 11k plus service agreement/cloud/etc. (you can prepay for 18k for unit and 5 year agreement).

ZEF's module system seems like a better fit as it is easy to scale up and down.

Talking to other vendors next week.

We bought a home in the country (-ish) last year with existing 600A 3-phase electric (we have a utility shed with infrastructure to possibly power Mayberry). Unfortunately there aren't any affordable solutions to take advantage of that yet.
