Wheel wells are far too rounded if the body is any indication. The rear hitch and what we can see of the subframe feels more Ford to me than anything. Hopefully it's not an R2 given the very odd roof rail design. Maybe a Cherokee or Nissan's finally making an Xterra replacement?

Any shots from the front?
THIS. I can't imagine, even at prototype stage, that it wouldn't have the rivian headlights and to be street legal they need to be exposed - and even if the cover were over part of them it's such a unique design you'd know quickly from the front

My guess is ford Explorer remember those are built here in chicago with the lincoln co part. They drive like complete A holes driving them to the delivery yards around here.

My inside source tells me the R2 platform is currently being tested using R1 test mules, retrofitted with R2 drive systems. Also, they have heat pumps... allegedly.....
I would expect a vehicle coming out in 2026 to have a heat pump. Also drivetrain will be enduro motors (already out).

Saw this in Chicago, IL. The only car manufacturer nearby is Normal, IL (Rivian) that I can think of.
It looks like the lights on the tail are similar to that of the new Land Cruiser. So my guess is 6th Gen 4Runner?

Roof rails look pretty un-Rivian to me. Two-tier roof isn't very aero. And I think those are protruding door handles. "Rivian" wouldn't be my first guess.

Regardless, simply smelling the thing would tell you whether it was an ICE vehicle, no? And while someone might object to you pulling up the cover, if you were smelling it I'm pretty sure other people would keep their distance. :giggle:
It was parked in a McDonalds parking lot. Not much smell when I was next to it. (fwiw)

Cybertruck 2.0. That isn’t cladding. That is just what it looks like.

Didn't know this about the Rivian (not a Rivian owner). Will take note and take a picture next time I see it.

I see it frequently here in Chicago (River North).

This kinda looks like it could be the Jeep Recon to me.

If I wanted to disguise an EV mule I'd tack a muffler on it...

The side mirror has similar design language to rivian's existing model (flat underside with a raised line for the last 1/3rd of the mirror). Really hard to tell otherwise.
And install this to confuse the hell out of spies. ?

This kinda looks like it could be the Jeep Recon to me.
Unless Jeep has changed the design, no. Telltale sign is the curvature of the driver's window (and A-pillar towards the top).

I'm pretty sure Ford/Ram or one of them was caught sticking mufflers on their test mule EVs

If I had to guess, it's not an ICE vehicle. I think are mistaking a hitch receiver for what they believe to be an exhaust pipe. Not sure it's a Rivian, per se. But don't think it's an ICE.
