When I’m in cruise control or adaptive cruise control on the curvy interstate I drive on, my R1T will slow down by 2-5 MPH in curves. This makes my cruise control worthless, as it makes traffic behind me slow down when there is no need to slow down. Is there a way to turn off the curve slowdown?
Agreed. This is one of the most annoying "features" of my R1T. Driving on the interstate in the mountains it's almost always unnecessary to slow down at all from the speed limit or a bit extra. As a result, I wind up driving the curvier sections without cruise just so it doesn't keep slowing down. I really wish that was an option to turn it off...make me agree to some warning or something, I don't care.

Our 2023 Chevy Bolt, which also has Adaptive Cruise Control, also slows down in curves -- but not as much as the Rivians.

Best wishes!

This is probably my least favorite of all of the things about my R1T. There is a place on my regular commute where it will suddenly slow me down to 55mph which is 10 mph below the speed limit on the road. The slowdown is so sudden that I have stopped using cruise control on my commute for fear of being rear ended by someone who is following me too closely. I would maybe understand if I was in the "self-driving" mode if the truck feels like it can't handle the corner, but for just being in regular ACC it should let me decided if I can make the curve or not. The ironic thing is that it only does this on pre-mapped roads for me and will let me use ACC around way sharper curves at higher speeds on unmapped roads...

It does let you decide - You just need to keep your foot on the accelerator pedal when you approach that particular curve. If this is your regular route, it shouldn't be a problem as long as you're prepared to take action. It might be annoying to have to do it but ACC is easily overridden. Once you take your foot off the pedal ACC returns to normal.

I wonder if one of the goals behind reducing the speed in curves is to minimize the force on, and wear of, the tire treads. It takes a lot of force to change the direction of a heavy vehicle....

Best wishes!

It was a bit annoying on my recent road trip from Vancouver to Kelowna BC. The speed limit is 120kph, set cruise for 135kph and at every bend, it would decelerate unnecessarily on each gradual bend. Because others were behind me at speed, I just cancelled the ACC and drove myself.
How did you do on your trip to Kelowna, make it all the way or did you have to stop to charge?

Our 2017 ICE Ford explorer did it with adapter cruise as well. I think it must be a standard of adaptive cruise control

I realize this is kind of an old thread but has anyone sent feedback to Rivian on this? It feels like a ridiculous feature, it needlessly disrupts the ride and if I have to use the accelerator to maintain speed it makes cruise control pointless.

I know how fast I want the car to go, that's why I set that speed in cruise control. It's unpredictable for everyone else and annoying for the driver.

I don't think they actually give a shit on things like this, so I didn't bother. Same as stupidly disabling adaptive with a trailer or powered bike rack. They don't think their ADAS is good enough to do it.

Because it isn't...

This is disappointing and also something I never considered could be a defect in some cars. With both Tesla and Chrysler adaptive it just stays at the set speed.

I had a 2018 Tesla with adaptive cruise control and it slowed down for corners.

I might be mistaken about this but last year I felt like this feature was undesired because it slowed DURING the corner, and not before the corners.

In recent months it seems like they changed it to slow down before the corner so I really haven't had much issue with it.

Has anyone else experienced this?

To me slowing down before the corner is the right behavior although I do wish you could simply turn off slowing for corners. Why would you slow for corners in an EV with a low center of gravity? Haha

The Tesla slows for sharp turns, to be safe. Does the Rivian slow down on gentle curves? (Not an owner yet.) Googling makes it sound like even an interstate's gentle curves cause a slowdown.

Edit to add: Tesla AP is what I normally use, not just the ACC.
