If there are known issues, Rivian would be better off socializing that with their service agents on the phones and techs/mangers in the SCs in order to stave off spurious trips into the SC by owners that will ultimately be dissatisfied with the time they’ve wasted getting there.
Completely agree. I don't want to waste a day off now to drive to a service center and then another to pick it up, just to hear it was all "within spec". The a month or two later see a recall that addresses one of the root causes of the reason I took all that effort for in first place.

If they pick it up and bring it back...I am more tolerant of "within spec". If on my dime...not gunna be a happy camper.

A common thread is let’s trust Rivian to get this sorted out and I am not disagreeing with that because it really is all we have to hope for. But on the other hand this is also the same company that does not even mention fuse boxes in their owner’s manual, will not tell you which fuses go to what and when questioned about what we should do if a fuse blows in the middle of nowhere says call them and they will come fix it. Like that is really going to happen. Look how hard it is now to even schedule a service call. At some point the company’s naiveness must be put aside and reality set in. Otherwise that is what bankruptcy courts are for.

And they just announced they stopped delivering automatic tonneau covers leaving all customers with none or none with an estimated manual tonneau sometime in 2023. Replacement redesigned auto tonneau covers are no where to be seen anytime soon.

I'm surprised that an issue this basic didn't show up during their years of stress tests before production.

I wish someone made an EV with the motor built into the hub, like Lordstown does. But that normal people can buy. No CV joints, diff, or gears to deal with.

Feeling “shafted”? I am. I left Tesla because of half shaft issues and vibrations on my Plaid. After a year and a half, they are still working on it with no fix in sight. Bought a Rivian on Monday; and it appears I will be “shafted” once more. BOHICA.

When this halfshaft noise first started being reported and the "fix" was greasing it, I mentioned in another forum thread that greasing is not going to fix it. It just masks the noise. If a rotating drive train shaft or joint is noisy, something's wrong. Tonneau Cover 2.0 in the making?

Yeah I think a theme so far is that they don't really understand the idea of "adventure" besides what they wrote for ad copy. Things don't go as planned, things break, you need a reasonable degree of self sufficiency. A real adventure is not a resort vacation, but that's the image they're selling.

I bought mine for primarily road use so it wasn't a major consideration to me, if it was I would have gotten the Gladiator or something.

Off-road daily. 3 miles each way of dirt to get to my house.
suspension cycles from low to high daily. yesterday I cycled to highest in offroad mode and then this. I’m wondering if the axels just aren’t extending enough and pulling themselves out of the disconnect at the highest setting. Even so there should be a c-clip or roll pin retainer to hold the shaft in at both ends.
I don’t know that this makes it better, but as a reference point I do a similar driving habit.

8 miles of dirt/gravel a day. Otherwise paved asphalt. Roughly 80-100miles per day with 3000 miles on the truck.

Truck goes into lowest/sport and will utilize high/off road for the dirt gravel. I rarely do but can count on one hand going into highest.

I carry loads in my bed. Truck has seen highway speeds in triple digits…

Knock on wood. I haven’t had any suspension issues, driveline issues, not even tonneau cover issues.

I don’t know if this matters but I have to stress I am not babying this thing and have been driving it no differently than the 270,000 mile Ridgeline it replaced….so far so good…but I do have a clunk at low speeds.

Yikes, Rivian having a hard time.
Not minimizing the real problems some are having, but its becoming a lot of typical doom and gloom sky is falling and "everybody" is going to have "my" problem that is the norm for any type of social media these days. Nobody wants to acknowledge the hundreds of videos/stories out there of owners enjoying their trucks in some pretty demanding offroad conditions without breaking anything. I have over 5000 miles on my truck and hesitate to even share just how good it has been for fear of dooming myself to experience one of the problems tomorrow, but there are plenty of owners out there like me. I'm a little more worried about this CV shaft issue, and will likely avoid the highest setting at all costs when off road for now. But so far no noises, no roof glass cracking, no significant tonneau cover issues, and no build quality concerns for my truck. Hope its stays that way. I don't baby it. I don't do any joyride off roading for off roading sake, but take it on plenty of unpaved forest/state roads and navigate plenty of deep ruts, all of which are about to get into the muddy, more demanding winter season. Fingers crossed.

I would be willing to wager that Ford has generated more recalls than Rivian has sold vehicles to date, and they are doing just fine. There is more than one YT channel of off road recovery businesses with thousands of videos of every well known off road vehicle brand being rescued broken, Rivian included. And most of those OEMs are doing just fine too.

Just curious, what SN is yours? Mine is 00991X and it’s as you describe yours. Maybe there was a short honeymoon build period and ours were built during that time?

So you are in a forum called "issues, repairs, warranty, tsb, and recalls", but you expected this to be a place where people talked about all the fun they are having with their perfectly built Rivians?

Mine is pretty good too. Really good. But it has had a few issues. And I am really glad to have a place like this to see shared experiences and maybe even help solve the problems the trucks have...although Rivian service team never wants to hear it.

I am a bit confused?

One possibility is that it did fine in prototype testing, but the OEM has a quality problem due to ramping up production for Rivian full production.
