I’m a newbie. So I have been experimenting with charging. I’m at a DC charger. Been plugged in ~15min. Charging rate increased from ~24kW to 50kW (max for this location) over 14min. I noticed the front R motor was red at 284F. Is this normal? Thanks

I've never noticed the motor temps while DCFC...now I'll have to look tomorrow when I do so.

My initial guess what you're seeing here is somewhat normal during charging. Motor heat/cooling is tied into the battery pack which is also tied into the cabin AC system -- they all use the same coolant. My guess is there's a lot of heat the system is removing from the battery towards a radiator up near the front grill, which may be increasing the overall motor temps and in this case the motor nearest to the outlet from the battery. Again this is just a guess.

I wouldn't get too stressed over it as the car has a lot of safeguards built into it and will adjust as necessary. For example, when preconditioning the battery for DCFC in the winter while driving, it's not uncommon to see the motor temps climb like this (as the motors will run slightly out of phase to create more heat). once they start to get into the hot area, the truck will cool them down

It's normal. Rivian is passing current thru the motors to heat the coolant which then heats the battery pack.

No, it's in the ORANGE. If it goes over the red line then it will turn red. Even then I would say there is no cause for concern because your Rivian should be monitoring and should take appropriate action if there is a problem, either by throttling down the current or turning on the cooling or something like that.

Before we had this screen available, nobody was complaining about their motors getting too hot, obviously. Yet everything worked just fine.

Thanks for the input.. I should have included that it is a used 2022 R1T. I got it this month with ~8k miles on it. I just wanted to make sure that I wasn't damaging my new to me truck.

You should air your tires up, unless there is a specific reason to be that low, should be 48psi cold.

Rivian heats the motors up to warm the battery for charging. If your battery was cold this would be why.
