I picked up my r1t yesterday. It’s awesome! But I’m wondering what the difference is between the standard and high regen settings (beyond the obvious).

When should I use one over the other? Does high lead to better range? Is it just personal preference? I’ve heard that lowering regen on teslas can increase range in the Highway.

Increased tire wear on high
It's all about how fast you try to stop. High regen makes it easier to load the tires during slow-down but it's under your control. The same can happen with 0 regen and hard breaking with the hydraulic system. Or... is there some secondary effect?

I've not bothered to ever put mine in Standard. I keep it on high all the time. This isn't exactly the most efficient EV ever created, so I feel compelled to try to recapture as much energy as possible, and I find the braking very easy to modulate with high regen. It took me a few weeks to get used to, but now I can regen brake from 70 to a stop behind a car and almost never come in too hot or too cold to stop right where I need to behind them.

The key is to remember you don't HAVE to lift all the way off the accelerator, and by not doing so, you're turning High regen into a variable regen between Standard and High, imo. I almost never have to come completely off the accelerator until I'm at that last moment of coming to a complete stop.

High just allows more regen if you are fully off the pedal - you can modulate it either way to get less regen braking.

That said it almost feels like the pedal force required is higher on high? It might just be in my imagination but it bugged me so I usually drive in 'standard'. Also helps me get used to what I have to work with because using less regen/brake force is still going to be more efficient since energy recovery isn't perfect.
