just wanted to poll on what forum members here do... since Rivian doesn't seem to do same effect as "hard reset" after OTA.

is it bad to do preemptive hard reset after installing?

wonder why Rivian doesn't just do a similar operation nightly or something.

They don’t do it because it is not needed.

Installing an update inherently actually does something of a vehicle reset as part of the process. Once the new software is installed, every component that got new software needs to restart for the changes to take effect. My guess is they probably just restart everything (a full vehicle reset) regardless of which components got updates, just for the sake of simplicity

I use to do a reset but stopped awhile ago, now only do one if I see odd behavior.

I still go through all of the screens that I use to cache them so they are quicker when I need them.

I don't automatically do it after an update, but I keep my thumbs warmed up in case anything isn't working properly.

Rivian R1T R1S do you reset after installing update? 1734712480900-mt

After installing the update last night, when i started up the vehicle this morning, i got a warning "adaptive headlights not working" (something to that effect), with "service soon". after i took my drive and came home i did a hard reset and will have to see if it went away next time i use the vehicle.

yes I would really hope so! But I keep hearing about little UI bugs or such that people often resolve with hard reset after installing the OTA. e.g. the fuzzy wheel power indicator (although I haven’t tried reset to fix that yet)

FWIW in my 3 months of ownership (not much) I have never had a post update bug/error. All of mine have been just randomly

I got that message this morning as well. Have not yet tried the hard reset. Did it clear the issue for you?

As a matter of habit, I did it with all my Tesla updates and do the same with my R1T.

I used to do this as often audio only came from passenger side after updates. Now it seems as though they have fixed that bug. ?

My wife said it did clear when she took it today. I'll run an errand with it tonight now to make sure it's working properly.

I had to do hard reset today, because driver assistance was stuck in “not supported on this road” even though it was areas I’ve driven before with it on.

turns out that seems to have done two things that people were talking about that I didn’t notice from 2024.47 update, until now:
1) the throttle response from 0 is much improved for “crawling”
2) my battery capacity/range dropped.

so maybe I have to resort to doing hard reset after updates after all…

They don’t do it because it is not needed.
And who wants them resetting (or even remotely accessing without reason) your vehicle nightly….seems inefficient and risky
