If I might make a suggestion here: careful relying on these. Firstly you need to be able to find them, as a crash severe enough to need them is also one where you likely went sideways or upside down. They should be tied or velcroed to a spot you know you can get to. Loose in a door pocket is no good, they’ll fly out. Secondly, they only work if you have enough room to swing your arm. On a road trip with a lot of luggage, there’s a good chance a crash big enough to cut power also pins luggage against you. And if we’re talking about kids in the backseat, I honestly don’t know how big/strong you need to be to break the glass and kick it out of the door frame 🤷

I carry a pair in my car, but as a “better than nothing” tool.
Also, a reminder that glove box is electronic. It won't open if 12v is dead. I realized this just a few days back.

How many threads do we need on this? Also, is your job spreading FUD? This is your second BS post in the past week. First, it was spreading uncertainty about the R2, and now it's rehashing an old topic that's already been beaten to death on this forum. What's your motivation here?

Are you really a short seller trying to make a few bucks off your puts on Rivian, or did you just get a case of the Debbie Downers? Either way, you need to chill out.
How many threads??? - as many as it takes to get it removed and fixed via a recall.

I definitely could create a new 10,000 word post on what I’ve done to get around those issues too! 🤣

My goodness, so much discussion on a topic that was solutioned nearly a hundred years ago. The fact that technofascists over engineered a failing replacement is amazing. Since I live in a failed country where corps run over decency of protecting its citizens, I hope entities such as the EU and even China can put a stop to this.

NO ONE needs to burn up in after a accident like this.

I don't give a hoot if these corps go bankrupt with a full recall and fix this.

Do it. I just made sure the hammer/seatbelt cutter is in the storage under the seat.

Again, that hammer is just about useless when used on laminated widows like Rivian uses.

Rear side glass is tempered for sure. Rest are likely laminated. Seats are electric too, so those doors better open.

15 deaths and 140 complaints according to the NHTSA compared to just shy of 40K deaths in all US car accidents. And for perspective 9 people died in automobiles hit by planes.

Soooo It's something but not something to worry about.

I agree, worth looking at it from a distance. That big picture view tells me it shouldn’t be a reason to not buy a Rivian, assuming you like everything else about the R1s. And if you don’t mind the very easy task of retrofitting a cable pull so the doors can be opened in an emergency, then the whole issue is gone. 👍

Does anyone use these anymore? In Rivian, and our other cars, kids cannot reach the release while in a convertible car seat. The seat belt is hard to unbuckle. They will stay in in till they are old enough to know the consequences.
I use them for my dogs. While they can’t pull handles, they lean up against the button all the time.

I'll solve this for everyone. You can buy a 2 pack of mechanical window-punches for about $25. Keep them in your car, and don't let the kids play with them.

It’s definitely concerning to me. My kids are more often in my wife’s Gen1, but I have a Gen2 and I just don’t understand why you wouldn’t put a damn handle!
