Drivers seat comfort in R2

It is impossible to make seats that are comfortable to every body shape and height. That’s why people prefer some brands and cars over others.

I'm 5'10" and found them to be comfortable. That said, when I tried a 0-60 run, I was thrown back into the seat and the part behind my shoulder blades "popped" back like a snapple lid. It felt weird and I was able to reproduce it after by forcing myself back into the seat. Made the seat feel very cheap

I agree no seat will fit everyone, but I think this design makes the seat uncomfortable for more people than necessary. Flattening those raised sections probably wouldn’t bother anyone who already likes the seat, but it could make it work for a lot more body types. And sure, some people will accept a little discomfort for the look... people daily drive Wranglers despite the obvious comfort compromises because they’re absolutely beautiful.

Threads like this can never become one sound thought process. Everyone is different, and different ailments as they age.

This is why I am a strong advocate (now) to see if you can find a rental Rivian model. Turo, or something, and rent it for a month, or 2 weeks. Maybe you will be ok with the seats, but not the ride, or maybe you were looking at a Tri/Quad, and realize its to much power, and a dual will meet your needs. There are a lot of variables that none of us can answer for you.

Rent one, try it, make your own decisions.

I've had many cars in my life including the R1T and my current RAV4 Prime and I have never
once noticed any seat being overly uncomfortable. There is something with that gap that just
doesn't totally sit right. Like I said in my previous post one test R2 I didn't notice it and the other I did so maybe there is some manufacturing variations out there.

Could be just recline, if you recline more you may never touch this area

Took delivery of mine the other day. Bunch of driving logged. It's not as comfortable as my R1T Tri Ascend interior, not a comparison there. But basically equal in comfort to my R1S Dual interior.

The difference between the Acend interior is that the Ascend is softer and envelopes you more, where as you more sit atop the R2.

I am 5'7", somewhat stocky. During my 45 minute demo in Raleigh, I found the seats to be comfortable. But I normally drive Porsche sport seats, so things like side bolsters and other snug fitting designs do not bother me. In fact, I prefer them.

Because they tested it, like everything else in the vehicle, rigorously, and a few people carping online, which is human flypaper for complaints, is in no way indicative of mass opinion nor experience.
Additionally, for anybody coming from an R1 that is $30k+ more expensive these days, of course it's not as plush/adjustable etc.

Wonder if some were driving vehicles with very low mileage and other that were more comfortable had greater miles....probably also somewhat weight dependent.

I'm 6'5" 195 lbs and found the driver's seat very comfortable on my 45-minute test drive.

5'9" here and my test drive experience felt like a significant improvement over my 2014 MS. Perhaps more relevant for me is the rear seats are dramatically more comfortable than the rear seats in my MS. Kids and spouse hate taking my car on road trips due to the back seat. Kids are (mostly) grown now so road trips will get less frequent but still it's good to know they won't hate the experience when the next road trip comes around.

That part of the seat will get softer after a few months, I bet. I had the same issue with R1 seats and it went away. I don't notice it anymore. I'm 6'2" for reference.

I found the back design was uncomfortable as well (r1 is fine). I also felt like the seat depth was a little wanting. (6'2" narrow-to-medium build). The main message I think is do a test drive and don't be rushed. In my experience, Rivian is really wonderful about letting you hop in and take the vehicle. I have driven the R2 twice and decided it is not for me, but I was not sure until I got to spend a little more time with it on the second drive.

I’m 5’4” and the R2 seat back was very comfortable for me. My current rav4 pushes my shoulders forward because it was designed for someone taller, and I hate it.
I get the impression that the issue is being voiced by people 6’+ with longer torsos, which is not representative of buyers in general.
As a data point, my 6’2 partner’s first complaint on the test drive was about the seat. I will still be ordering when I get my invite.

I feel like the seat feel may have a direct relationship with the vehicle you currently own and for how long you've owned it. I'm 6'4", 300#, and have pretty wide shoulders. I found the seat comfortable on our 30 minute demo drive. Tesla seats in the Models 3/Y get lots of praise and I've spend thousands of miles in them without much discomfort but there are times that the bolstering in the upper portion of the seat starts to bother my right shoulder blade. I've notice it more when I'm just sitting parked and using the center screen more as I'm leaning to the right slightly. The R2 felt fine in that short ride. Time will tell but seat position and steering wheel angles can make or break comfort over long trips.
