I notice a few people have indicated that the upper part of the drivers seat hits them in an uncomfortable way. For those who have driven it, it would be helpful to see if this is a larger trend or just a few people. Thanks for your consideration......

I’m 6’2” and have about 3-4 hrs test drive time. Zero issues with any part of the seat. Found them comfy.

I’m 5’7”, balanced torso/legs, and in my 30 minute test drive I found it very comfortable.

5'9" test drive only. I thought the seats were not great. The seat feels great until the support ends just below the shoulder blades. Then, I found, there was about zero support above that. when you lean back to look for the support, it is there but it is rock hard. You have to intentionally lean back hard to find it

I'm 5'10" and I did two test drives. First one I didn't really notice it but the second one I really did.
Not sure if somehow there is variation but the second one gave me pause as I'm not sure I could
live with it. I plan to go look again before ordering. Definitely not as comfortable as the R1T seats
I had.

They probably decided that the number of people who will feel uncomfortable is smaller than the number of people who will buy the vehicle because of the seat design and won't feel these pressure points. The seat was clearly designed more for looks than for everyone's comfort.

I would not go with that assumption.

I'm 5'10" and found the seat comfortable on my 30 min test drive. Everybody is going to be different. I'm sure it's the same with any other brand.

What do you think was the decision to implement this design?
Because they tested it, like everything else in the vehicle, rigorously, and a few people carping online, which is human flypaper for complaints, is in no way indicative of mass opinion nor experience.
Additionally, for anybody coming from an R1 that is $30k+ more expensive these days, of course it's not as plush/adjustable etc.

Its not really about how tall you are, its about your body overall size.

I am 6'2" and have very wide shoulders, hips, torso, etc. I also have back issues, but that only affects how I get in and out of the Riv. There is plenty of foward/backwards movement in the seat frame, so height is not really the factor except for the low door frame.

The upper seat I actually dont have any issues with other than I wish there was more lumbar support. The lower seat, because of how wide I am at my hips, and thru my thighs, means I am not really sitting on the seat cushion, but rather the bolsters to the side of the seat, at least until 30k miles of use smooshed those bolsters down so I am now more sitting on the seat cushion.

I have hated the lower seat since about day 10 of owning my R1/G1

My boss, who is quite a bit narrower thru his whole frame than me, rather likes the seats, and how they support him. The owner of my company, he hates the seats, and is wider (built like, and was, a football linebacker) than I am.

I’m also narrow at 5’9” 165 lbs and I hated them.

maybe I’m in The narrow bodied minority

"Rigorous testing" doesn’t magically make every complaint invalid. If several people feel the same pressure point in the same place, that is a design issue for those body types, not just "online carping." Most owners may be perfectly comfortable, but that doesn’t mean the seat works for everyone. And the R1 price comparison is irrelevant. Comfort shouldn’t require spending another $30k.

I'm not invalidating the "complaint" that the seat might not work for everybody. I am strongly disagreeing with your comment that the seats were chosen for looks over function.

It's a car - it fits some and not others. It's been this way since Grog carved the first chair out of a log. It's one of many reasons to buy or not by something. Many people buy shoes because they look great, and kill your feet; I'm looking at you, stiletto heeled Louboutin's. They might make you look sexy, but that's a bad reason to buy. Is it disappointing to love everything about a vehicle only to realize you'll never feel comfy in it? Sure is.

What functional purpose do those raised sections serve? I can see the styling intent, but I don’t see an ergonomic or technical benefit. If they improve support, posture, or safety, I’m happy to hear the explanation. Otherwise, they look like a design choice that creates a pressure point for some people
