Installed the update over the weekend and on my commute to work today I felt like I was driving a new truck. Rear motor engagement is back to being almost unnoticeable and I actually think the overall transition from acceleration to regen is smoother as well. In addition to much smoother rear motor engagement generally, it feels like a couple of other tweaks were made that improved the overall experience. First the threshold acceleration level for rear motor engagement appears to be higher which I really appreciate. Some light acceleration to make a normal pass no longer engages the rear. Second I was getting a ton of rear motor intervention on bumpy sections of highway even under light throttle while simply maintaining speed. There are literally spots on my commute where I’d previously lift off the throttle so as to not trigger the jolt from the rear motor on what was already a bumpy stretch of road. Today that issue appears to have gone away so it seems like maybe the traction control settings were updated to allow a bit more tolerance on bumpy roads.
Hopefully this update has the same impact for everyone as I’d almost forgotten how smooth my truck was before this software glitch created a problem.

After update 2025.26 our dual motor is back to the way it was for the first 20,000 miles. So glad, it is much better now. For reference I had it in for service for something else and they recalibrated it a month ago with zero improvement. Edit: Gen 1

I had the update and then the service center calibrated it on my visit earlier this week. I can't even notice mine connect/disconnect anymore. Super smooth.

Yes the latest 2025.26 update smoothed out the rear motor engagement. Thank you Rivian!

Worsening rear motor engagement can also be from a failing 12V battery. This just happened to me. 25k miles.

This is 100% true. If that light is on for the 12V -- disable traction control or else you'll be clunking like a maniac.

When is the AWD lock coming? We saw the video in March and this still isn't implemented.

How about they finally just get rid of having dual permanent magnet motors. Better yet, when is the RWD model coming out?

All of this wouldn't have been an issue if it was RWD by default. If "Conserve" was RWD like every Toyota, Chevy, Ford truck and SUV, it would have been a non issue. Instead they took an AWD Honda CRV which is usually FWD and made the size of a minivan and weight of an F250.

Would love to see just a single motor RWD variant. Simplify the hell out of this power train, increase range, etc. The complexity of this power train is bonkers to me.
