I spoke to Rivian CS two days ago and they told me they aren't going to be delivering dual motor R1 until at least "the end of summer". They are still only producing quad motor R1. The EDV are getting the Enduro motors first.

I may have to give up on Rivian. Maybe think about a Hyundai Ionic 5.

My understanding is that the dual motor max pack is still end of summer, but dual motor should be very shortly. It'd be easy to confuse the two. We'll find out in about 4 days!

Im with you on this one, why would they tell a bunch of people. (myself included) May-June then all of the sudden change it to the end of summer. I know they told that to a lot of people before but the delivery updates have been more and more accurate lately.

I think they start shipping dual motor large packs as soon as validation tests are completed. For more than one reason, Rivian needs to ship these asap

I just got my update:

Estimated Delivery
July - August 2023

Slipped two months. That kind of looks like end of summer. (Looks like @240vPlug had accurate information) :)

Mine slipped to Aug-Sept 2023. Glad to see there is some July-Aug so might get it earlier.

To align with the opening of a Rivian Service Center and its projected customer capacity in your area, we have had to move your delivery window back. Your new delivery window estimate is now in your Account.

We know this is not the news you were hoping for, but we sincerely believe it’s best to deliver your Rivian vehicle when we can also provide you with the added confidence of local service support. Our team is working hard to expedite the development of this infrastructure to get your R1S to you as soon as possible.

My understanding is that there will be very few, if any, Dual Motor R1S deliveries in 2023.
From my Rivian guide on March 2nd: "As implied in the video with RJ, very minimal deliveries of this spec will be made beginning of fall, prioritizing our 2018/2019 pre-order holders, then continue production the following year in 2024."
i dont think thats true. all indications are they want to start pushing out dual motors this year and for various reasons they picked a bunch of folks with order dates that are not so recent into the mix.

i suspect a lot of the pre-march price increase order holders do not want to switch to dual because it doesnt make much sense to do so - you're losing your pre-march price if you switch to a dual motor.

i think if you guys had switched to the dual, you may have gotten earlier delivery dates but seems like a lot of folks who were pre-march price increase didnt switch (and i dont blame you) because if you did you lost the lower price of the quad (pre-march price). i think thats why were seeing later order dates get bumped up because they have dual motor configured.

i think we need to look at the dual motor as getting into a new line and quad folks are still in the quad line. at least in the beginning of the dual motor rollout.

That's interesting. How far away from the Plymouth SC are you? Madison Heights is going to be slightly closer for me, but not a whole lot. I think at this point Rivian knows I understand the waiting period for service items so maybe that's encouraging them to get mine out the door earlier? Of course early March is quite a bit earlier than mid-April for the reservation.

I had initially put mine in as an R1S Dual+Standard, so that estimate was "2024", and depending on how things go I might switch it back to that.

I'd gladly switch to a dual motor large pack R1S from my (pre-march) quad large R1S to improve my July-Dec 2024 delivery date if I could keep the same price.

Earlier this year, I had a estimated delivery date for July/August 2023 for the R1T dual motor large battery pack. I'm a post hike April 2022 order.
Along the way, powered tonneau was removed and manual cover defaulted in. I received my invite to confirm and begin the delivery process (told usually 4-6 weeks from confirming to delivery). I told my guide I wanted to wait for the powered cover to come back before confirming. "Processing estimated" was what displayed ever since then.
Today, I got the email saying since I'm not ready, I won't get an estimated delivery date until I confirm. I just need them to announce the redesigned power tonneau option so I can confirm and take delivery!
