In Europe we have a driving license limited to 3500kg, with a weight of 3160Kg for the 1S quad motor we just don’t have enough payload /passenger weight to make it a viable product.
Looks like the dual motor and it’s associated weight reduction is a more viable product here. Does anybody know the weight savings with the dual motor?… you loose two motors but you gain two differentials.
Unless there is a significant diet…. Y see my purchase of an R1S in Europe just not happening…

None of us here work for Rivian. I don't even think the guides know what the dual-motor weight is at the current time. Regardless of this, you should be directing that question directly to Rivian.

Yes I should, but every time I ask something I get the same answer: “more details will be available in the future, stay connected to keep informed”. I was wondering if they info got released somehow unofficially and somebody in the forum fished it around…

Sadly, that response is not surprising. Rivian keeps a lot to themselves (even to their own guides). This is something that will come out in 2024, as we get closer to that time, info will start to appear.

A lot of us here want information as quickly (and badly) as possible. Alas, it still doesn't change that this isn't Rivian's official forums and a lot of information gathered here has been either by tidbits from information gathered later or speculation. I promise you, the day that info gets released several fools will put up several different threads about the same topic ?

Rivian is not even offering their vehicles for sale or reservation in Europe yet. Until they do, it's a moot point whether or not it is under the weight limit as you couldn't buy one regardless. It would not surprise me if they wait until the smaller R2 vehicles are available to open the market.

That said, it will almost certainly weight less with 2 motors instead of 4, and selecting the Standard Pack battery would further reduce the weight. You should easily fit an extra person or two in under the weight limit.

It will likely be lighter, but not as much as you might be expecting. EV motors are not all that heavy. Cutting out 2 motors is not going to save all that much weight, especially since they are still going with a 4WD system and the dual motor version is going to use more powerful motors. I suspect the the dual motor long range will still be at or a bit over 3000 kg.

And from the recent call, the short range version is likely going to use cheaper batteries rather than just fewer batteries. So again, it will likely be somewhat lighter but again not as much as you might expect.
