Yes...you were consuming energy to heat your battery pack. The same or similar amount of energy the DM would need to consume to do the same amount of heating (work) of the battery pack. Other than some fairly small, potential(and I say potential since we don't know enough of the equation)loss to environment thru the physical case of the QM more than DM as some have speculated, it will be pretty similar. The cases would have to get physically pretty hot to make any substantial difference and I don't think they do.
Compare the below photo with the one above of a QM. I am heating the battery off a single motor @ far lower temps.

Maybe what you are missing is that the heat does not need to reach the case for the Enduro to harvest it; it is being harvested at the armature, where it is being created. The case, or skin temp on an Enduro is irrelevant. Again, based solely on your statements, I think you are missing an important design point. The closer to the heat source you collect said heat the more efficient the system. Since that is really not a debatable subject (oil is a better conductor than air), I think I will just leave it at that:

Maybe I am wrong....but it seems to me the energy has 4 paths here ultimately. In, from the battery, out to the motor shaft, out to the coolant, and lastly out to the environment. What I am saying is that the energy to the environment is similar in both cases and so is the motor shaft. So anything comming into the motor from the battery is making it out to the coolant, in both the QM and DM cases. Again....I could be wrong....so that is where I leave it.

All good discussion! One of the bigger reasons I bought my R1T was to learn as much as I can about it and all this helps me work in that direction!

I mentioned we recently acquired a Volvo XC40 Recharge. Only made 1 trip to and 1 trip back from the cabin. Added that very limited data to the graph below.

Sorry, they won’t.
I safely got 31,500 with my 21s and two tire rotations, running mostly Conserve Low. Now at 37,000 am trying All PurposÉ› as routine mode at the suggestion of the Minneapolis SC. It might be easier on the suspension components and or the tire wear.
Efficiency drops by 20 percent but electricity is cheap. I like Conserve Stiff when I run that way...has a good feel to me.
Sorry, they won’t.

Rivian learned a lot from the Bosch experiment, and is making the trucks better. Rejoice.
?
Even though we have pre-price hike locked in for the R1S with Quad motor at $75.5k, I've been super tempted to get the dual performance for this very reason. The tech is purely Rivian and the likelihood of higher efficiencies year round, for slightly less money, is awful tempting. I know we'd lose resale value, but if we plan to have it for at least 5 years, I'm not worried about that.

We received an email from Rivian offering to let us switch to a DM performance max pack R1S from a pre price hike QM large pack. Same configuration for everything else and only $5,000 more. We quickly took the offer since that was exactly what we wanted. (Didn’t need the max pack but still wanted it)

$5k for max pack? Should be $7k, pushing it over $80k limit for tax credit. Can you post a pic of the price breakdown?

$80k with max pack... I might actually bite. I'm not sold on the necessity of max pack, my quad R1T has been plenty for our needs.

Max Pack but also downgrade from Quad to Dual, right?

I was just trying to explain the price difference quoted.

$500 difference in motors, $7000 difference in battery.

So at most a $6500 difference, so I'm curious where the other $1500 came from that @Proxy saw. Could've been some other things taken off, like wheels or interior, and just looked like only $5k increase.

Changes were quad to dual performance and large pack to max pack. Price comparison was pre price hike quad large. Price breakdown:
$75k dual perf adventure
$7k max battery
$3.5k paint and interior

Original quad/large was:
$75.5 quad adventure
$3.5 paint and interior

So it was $6,500 difference. I forgot that they took off the accessories, sorry for the confusion.

You're aware of the tax credit impact, yes? That's actually a $10,750 upgrade.

@Riviot Good point for someone to consider the tax implications. However, it doesn’t change anything for me.

I forgot about this update!

So it diverges at 40°F. Now the question is, what are the individual impacts of conserve and ride height? I imagine conserve is the bigger difference, but you know what happens when you assume... (Spoiler alert: you get married after 9 months of dating and regret it until your divorce)
