Slightly off topic, grew up doing the human slalom at Killington and skiing the snow gun lines on Upper Cascade early season. A good buddy skiis Gore quite a bit too.

Really? I drive up I-87 almost every weekend, and have been checking for DC fast chargers as I pass each service station, and have seen almost none north of Saratoga. This would be GREAT news for me, but I haven't seen evidence yet. Thanks for the info if this is true... great news!
Yeh of little faith . . . .

This article has an interactive map. I believe most show up on the Shell recharge ap. The Long Island ones don't seem to (show up on plugshare). Go figure.

Not that I have seen (was there picking up our passes last weekend). In fact I have decided not to take delivery of my R1T until the charging infrastructure gets built out north of Saratoga. Right now the charging options along I-87 are VERY limited, and our lake/ski house near Gore is 245 miles from our Brooklyn house, which scares me in cold/bad weather.
Not an issue any more per my map post. I am just about same mileage from western Nassau. Lived in Carroll Gardens for 8 years, great places in Brooklyn.

We had minor ice buildup and 29 deg F. Luckily I keep my door unlocked or I would not have been able to get in. The tonneau cover had opened on its own, may ice pressuse, so bed had snow. Neither pass through would open, both unlatached, opened 1/2" at top. no ice around them. I could get my fingers in but could not pull them open. Had to use inside buttons as I could not locate the outside ones under the thin layer of ice. The door locks would not close, so I drove with them in open position. A warning came that vehicle had limited function, guessing as cameras were iced.

Driving to Killington to ski race camp in 3 weeks will give chance of a lot more ice and dirty ice than this. How do you open pass throughs to get ski boots out when the won't open? How can you keep tonneau cover from opeing on it's own? Should I keep vehicle unlocked to get in when there is ice? Are there heaters for the door locks, hood, pass throughs that will work if I am more patient? Should I bring a heat gun or hair dryer with us?

This common condition could ruin a great ski trip.
So what was the plan when ice is built up on rails. Buttons are not even visible. They must have tested for this. Also precondition does not work from app during icing. Just says "unable to wake vehicle". Seems scraping ice and manually opening is the only way. Phone app is tough as I have to open app, turn Bluetooth off, then turn it on again. I am soaked or covered in snow by then

Thank you for your answers. YES, opening rear door to pull passthough cover open while pushing button, solves that problem of getting caught on secondary catch while iced. Techician was able to get my tonneau cover fixed in a closed position. And doors will open when frozen over by pushing in on the latch. So we are ready to rock to Killington Ski Race Camp in 3 weeks. Hope this was helpful to others

Good luck. We've really been enjoying our vehicle for skiing out west here, but we don't get the ice that you do in the NE (wife's family are all vermont skiers).

My charge port was frozen this morning. When I banged to break up the ice, I found the build-up was inside. The cover does not seal well enough. And whose bright idea was it to put the buttons to open tailgate and gear tunnel on the top flat surface where ice must be pounded off and sometime pressure from ice will instigate opening. How much ice testing was done? We get ice buildup every few days.

For opening the tailgate and gear tunnel, you can still use the interior screens, although not nearly as seamless as using the buttons on the bed. And I am not sure where else the could put the buttons, it seems the most natural place. They couldn't place the buttons in the bed because the tonneau could be closed. I do find the ice buildup inside the charger door unsettling.

I haven't noticed the ice actually affecting operation at all, but we haven't gotten more than a few mm of ice, and that was last season. If it doesn't close all the way it doesn't seem to hurt anything.

Agreed, a piss-poor design. Like many design choices on the Rivian, this looks like it was imagined by someone with no real-world experience building motor vehicles that live in the outdoor world.

For the umpteenth time... this didn't show up in the famous "Alaska Testing" Rivian was bragging about?

A quick "fix" would be an option to disable the physical switch in the bed and only allow tonneau operation via the cabin UI or phone app.

That's good to hear. Just seems like a bad spot for water, ice to form.

I was under the impression the charger door was closed, and when he opened it there was ice. How much ice could be a problem.
