Are you saying the tonneau cover retracts anytime you unlock the truck? Because I thought the OP was saying he always leaves the truck unlocked at the farm but for some reason the cover opened overnight without pressing the button. I think he’s wanting to know if anyone else has had the cover retract mysteriously on it’s own before.

No what I am saying is because OP left his truck unlocked that weather it was ice or someone or something pressed the open button for the cover that it was allowed to open. Which wouldn't happen if the truck was locked

No. The tonneau cover usually only opens if I push botton on rail or touchscreen inside. During freezing rain, for some reason it opened, doors unlocked, no key present. Then it froze and broke.

Last week I was unable to open the gear tunnel door because it didn't protrude enough due to some ice buildup. I learned there is a pretty nice handle available if you open the rear passenger doors to open it. Only helps if you can actually press the button, but glad I don't need a tool or something to open that all winter.
What do you mean "pretty nice handle available"

The portion of the gear tunnel door that interfaces the rear passenger doors has a large lip available if the passenger door is open. So instead of trying to get your finger in the gap between the gear tunnel door and the surrounding sheet metal, you have much better access to grab the gear tunnel door with the passenger door open.

We had minor ice buildup and 29 deg F. Luckily I keep my door unlocked or I would not have been able to get in. The tonneau cover had opened on its own, may ice pressuse, so bed had snow. Neither pass through would open, both unlatached, opened 1/2" at top. no ice around them. I could get my fingers in but could not pull them open. Had to use inside buttons as I could not locate the outside ones under the thin layer of ice. The door locks would not close, so I drove with them in open position. A warning came that vehicle had limited function, guessing as cameras were iced.

Driving to Killington to ski race camp in 3 weeks will give chance of a lot more ice and dirty ice than this. How do you open pass throughs to get ski boots out when the won't open? How can you keep tonneau cover from opeing on it's own? Should I keep vehicle unlocked to get in when there is ice? Are there heaters for the door locks, hood, pass throughs that will work if I am more patient? Should I bring a heat gun or hair dryer with us?

This common condition could ruin a great ski trip.
Sorry to hear this and please keep us posted. My Launch Edition R1s seems permanently delayed but eventually winter ski trips will be an important part to the ADKs around Gore or in the Catskills.

Where exactly is that handle located?

Sweet. Yes. Google Evolve NY - New York took the VW diesel gate settlement money and is putting in or has put in a bunch of high speed chargers, from 150-350 kw. The Shell Recharge app has most of the listed except the ones on Long Island.

I have not used them as I am currently ICE. I am guessing you would take 88 to 87. 87 there are a lot of chargers and I believe there are at least some on 88.

PM if you go up. We'll probably ski Belleayre more this year but will be at Gore for holidays.

Being over 70, I did buy the pass that includes Belleayre. Too crowded on weekends but I may take a weekday off from work to go

Not that I have seen (was there picking up our passes last weekend). In fact I have decided not to take delivery of my R1T until the charging infrastructure gets built out north of Saratoga. Right now the charging options along I-87 are VERY limited, and our lake/ski house near Gore is 245 miles from our Brooklyn house, which scares me in cold/bad weather.

Really? I drive up I-87 almost every weekend, and have been checking for DC fast chargers as I pass each service station, and have seen almost none north of Saratoga. This would be GREAT news for me, but I haven't seen evidence yet. Thanks for the info if this is true... great news!

I highly recommend using the Plugshare app to view DC fast charging along your prospective route.
