Forward bed panel removal

Curious if anyone knows what’s behind the forward (front end) vertical bed panel? (The one that says Rivian in big letters)

I strapped a planer against it today and saw how flimsy that plastic panel was. I am considering replacing it with something else eventually but was thinking there’s probably more space behind it where the powered cover would stow? And maybe a new panel could take advantage of that or maybe not.

(I don’t have mine yet and unless it arrives before my GFC production reservation I won’t be using it)

he takes his Rivian to the SC and they take it apart for the tonnaeu cover replacement. You will see the back panel in the video past the middle of it.

Perfect thanks for sharing. Not quite what I was expecting but makes sense. I can also see that flexing the plastic panel at the bottom like I did won’t damage anything behind it at least.

I bolted a couple of channels of t track to it and added some loops and a wheel chock to it. Works pretty well and just used the existing m6 bolt locations.

That’s nice but for me I load and unload materials enough that I plan to keep the bed fairly empty of everyday carry type items and also don’t want to add any mounting accessory there that would eat up the depth. I do enjoy a set of bed drawers though so might go that route when I have the topper on if I can keep them such that a spare would still be accessible with some minimal effort

I have taken it out. Not sure how removing it could solve anything. But here's what I use for cargo. Cheap and very effective, very flexible.

Indeed. Thank you. I am mostly concerned with breaking the existing panel with heavier materials shoved against that back wall. I could see replacing it with something sturdier and possibly having the same hatch he used. A sheet of plywood would be easy light and sturdy and okay with a topper… but not very good looking. Maybe some aluminum plate.
