Problems!

Stock Yakima bike rack doesn't work very well. If you have a modern long and slack 29er MTB like my Yeti it doesn't fit. I mean it sort of fits but it really doesn't fit well.

It makes contact to the top of the roof and its too long for the back strap.

My hitch mounted Kuat rack doesn't allow the bed to come down and drives the parking sensors crazy.

There is a rear accessory option in the settings menu that disable the rear warnings. Just be careful backing up. I really wish they had this on my last MTB trip but it came in a more recent update.

You have the Yakima Highroad. Yakima Frontloader works better in that configuration. You could also run the Highroad backwards.

I can't mount the high road backwards. I tried based on some posts. It aggravates the situation because it shortens the effective wheelbase. Will try again tomorrow.

I should have paid more attention instead of blindly ordering from the Rivian catalog

That’s the worst. We’re opting for a fork mount - either Yakima Highspeed or Thule Topride.

I put my fork mount Thule rack on recently. I have not driven very far with it on to see what kind of range impact it may have.

I was wondering about taking the front wheel off and putting the bike under the tonneau myself. I measured my mountain bike and even sticking it in the bed diagonally and removing the front wheel, I'm not sure it will fit. Might have to take off the back wheel as well. Would love to know if you're able to make it work and what size bike you have.
I have a 27.5 that I've put in the bed. It seemed to work fine but not ideal as it was still able to move around a bit. Just got a hitch rack that I'll use next time. The Kuat NV 2.0 seems like a solid option, being easy to get bikes on/off and won't mess too much with range.

Hello! My first post, but I wanted to share this: I think I found a good solution for mounting bikes on the racks over the Rivian truck bed. I used a Yakima Frontloader (which I've had previously and is a very durable bike mount) and placed the front of the bike mount facing the cab. The Frontloader mounting mechanism is very close to the center of the front wheel, so it allows my 29'er bike to fit if the mounts are in the widest position on each side. I don't think this bike would fit in the middle. Smaller bikes, or maybe 26/27.5" bikes would fit in the middle if you wanted to load more than 2 bikes.

Some numbers: my bike has a 45.5" long wheels base (wheel center to center) and is 74" from the furthest from rubber to the back of the rear tire. There is about a 1-1.5" gap to the roof of the cab. I'm pretty excited that I found a solution- I was not looking forward to bikes on the roof or a hitch mount. Am I missing something?

How much pass the bed does the tray stick out?

Re: bikes in the bed

I have a FS 29er (SC Hightower if that helps) and need to take off both wheels to get it in the bed. Not ideal at all. I'm using a tailgate pad. I usually loop a bungee cord from the top of the bed mounts around the seatpost so they don't move around.

I went this route. I wanted to be able to pull into my garage without taking the bike off first. I have a few inches to spare (assuming I don't put the suspension into the highest setting).
Not sure how much aero impact it will have.
