Oh for sure, but they also have promised lots of software features that are still missing.
they haven't promised anything. They are still working on the software and will continue to do so for many years just like Tesla. I'd rather have that then to have software that doesn't get update over the life of the car.

Let’s see… Rivian also committed to the following this summer, missing the deadlines and zero communication:

* Towing update
* Compact spare availability.

I expect them to fumble the paid communications and relevant features it unlocks.

Note: I support the paid model and will purchase a reasonable “data” plan.

Guess I have to ask why we are worrying about a non issue at this point. FYI

Tesla changed to a monthly paid premium subscription for cellular and it was pretty painless

Not a Rivian apologist here, but lets cut the software release windows a bit of slack. My wife works as a product manager for a tech company, and while internal goals are set, telling a customer "Expect 2.0 on this date" never happens, as they occasionally slip due to complexity, bugs, etc.

If they loosely give a window of "End of Summer" appreciate they are at least providing that level of clarity, and it will be give or take a month or so.

I have a feeling the update that includes the tow mode overhaul, blind spot cameras, rear screen functionality, and video streaming services, to be more of a 2.0 overhaul of the current UI, and thus more complex than just a "we changed this" update.

I still remember the dark days of "Soon"

I’m also with a large well known tech company. When engineering teams make an external feature commitment we move mountains to make it happen. Loosing customer trust is a bitter pill. I’m willing to give some slack if we had some open communication on what’s happening.

Nope, not giving them a pass. They make things harder on themselves by “redeveloping” software that already exists. Also not giving them a pass because the trucks cost $90k. For that price you should get a somewhat least complwted vehicle. I’m sick and tired of RJ’s BS.

As an LE owner I support this. As an active forum member, I know I couldn't stand the shit posts if that happened.
Haha it would be a bit bunk for those of us (me) that went max pack, but then adventure due to max delays.

But, I would support the move.

IMO not worth it for Hotspot, I can get that off my phone at no cost and stream media from the phone like I do today. I'm assuming that if you don't pay for it, the streaming services stop working but GPS, OTA updates, and remote access via the app still work similar to Tesla.

If it's $100 for Hotspot and dependent features AND that enables video streaming services and other features that might be more worth it.

Well there's not much you can do about it except move on from Rivian.

I hate the fact that Rivian disabled wifi when driving. This will stop us using mobile hotspot for listening to music, traffic, etc.
Wait, really? I just got my R1S so I haven't played with it yet.

But my intention was to use Wifi in the car to connect my son's iPad to play stuff in the backseat. Can I not do that anymore?

He was referring to using Wi-Fi tethering to provide data to the vehicle. Your in-vehicle hotspot will still work for free through the end of the year.

I have it on good authority that the work for it is done. Can't go further into detail but my source also has no insight into anything beyond that, and if they did, I wouldn't expect them to tell me anyway.

I'm not convinced this change wasn't strictly because the vehicles data used to behave really poorly when you lost wifi signal after driving away. Was probably just an easy way to fix it and probably what I would have done. Toggle off the wifi connection as soon as you shift out of park.

I tend to agree. The change notes specifically mentioned this scenario when it came out.
