Heads up for Gaithersburg SC appointments:

Just dropped off Gen 1 R1S for an airbag light after waiting a month+ just to get an appointment. At drop off they said it will be 2-3 weeks for them to even look at the vehicle.

They did also say they have a Glen Burnie SC opening soon and a northern VA SC moved up to opening in April 2025 instead of late 2025. They aren’t allowed to say the location though. They have Rivians from as far north as NJ being worked on here at Gaithersburg.

And probably all the vehicles in central and western PA are coming to Gaithersburg as well.

the 2-3 week thing has been going on for a while unfortunately. Service is overwhelmed.

the employees at the service centers are awesome though.

They really need to fix this, as it will significantly hurt them in the long run. Isn't lemon law eligibility in Maryland after 30 days in service? After waiting three weeks in service before addressing the issue, they're very close to being eligible. Two visits like that in 24 months and an aggressive customer—then what happens?

I'm Lancaster, PA (so southeast PA) and they sent me two hours to Gaithersburg for my HVAC service. They told me that it would be 10-14 days after drop-off before they looked at it, but they want to have it onsite so that they can get to it earlier if possible. In my case I had my car back in just under 3 weeks so I suspect they looked at it, ordered parts, and then moved on to someone else until the parts came in. I had an identical R1S loaner so I really couldn't complain.

Gaithersburg is swamped. Good staff, obviously under pressure due to the number of vehicles. Am sure you saw them all outside. They told me about the new SC's opening in Glen Burnie and NoVA recently, also (I've heard either Tysons, or Loudoun County area maybe?). Can't be too soon. I had the best experience telling them I'd wait for my vehicle. I think they prioritize people sitting in their lobby, but obviously that depends on if they need to order parts (or if it's just service, as my visits have been). Shame options are so limited for PA people, as well.

Fingers crossed for Tysons (10 mins from me), but that’d be pricey real estate.

When I picked up my R1T in June, I chose Gaithersbug, 130 mi/2 hrs from my home, over Brooklyn, 125 mi/ hrs to take care of the items from delivery (mostly panel misalignments). The earliest appointment I could get was late August. About 2 weeks before my appointment, Rivian service contacted me to let me know that the parts for my tonneau cover (configured for my R1T, but not installed at the factory) were in. The added work bumped the service date at Gaithersburg out to October. Rivian service was confident that all of the work (there are 8 items on the repair order, including the PTC) would be done the same day that I brought the car in.

I didn't test that claim, at least at Gaithersburg, because I was finally allowed to schedule at the much closer Trenton, NJ center which prior to that time, had not been taking appointments for routine service items. The Trenton appoitment is for 25 Novermber, but I keep hearing that the Malvern, PA site will soon be open. If that happens, I'd gladly push my service date out to next year as Malvern is only 10 miles distant.

Regardless of where the work finally gets done, this thread seems to indicate that it's pretty likely going to take a few weeks.

They're also adding a SC in Malvern, PA (Philly suburb) which should relive some of the pressure from PA folks whose current best option is Gaithersburg.

My Gaithersburg service estimate is 3-4 weeks.

The Gaithersburg Service Center is swamped with vehicles in for service and what looks like new vehicles ready for pickup/delivery/sale[?]. I wonder if Rivian is just shipping manufactured vehicles (with no owners yet) to service centers for later sale now. When I last visited the Gaithersburg Service Center in maybe September 2023, I was able to to park right at the front door and could count on one (or two) hands the number of other Rivian vehicles outside in the parking lot. This time, I needed a compas to navigate my way from one of the few open parking spaces to the front door (slight exageration). I brought my 2023 R1S in today for tire rotation, multi-point inspection and to diagnose/fix a rattle at the rear hatch. Rivian says I will also receive a 12 volt battery. I was told best guess/estimate is that I would receive my Rivian back in three-four weeks. This is after waiting three months for a service appointment at the Gaithersburg Service Center. I know...Rivian is a new company with growing pains. I appreciate the staff at the Gaithersburg Service Center. Everyone was prompt, courteous and professional. When I mentioned to the service rep that it looks like the service center is fairly busy, I think I saw a tear in her eye. All my best to the Gaithersburg service crew. Keep your chin up.

The Rivian SC in Northern VA was already sniffed out a few months ago. It's going to be in Sterling technically, but it is actually Arcola (near Solace brewing) which is a great location. I know a lot of the mobile and SC staff for Gaithersburg are anxious for it to open to relieve some pressure and for them to move to since a lot of them live in NoVA.

I'm excited about it as well, it will be much closer for me. I had an appointment for a front parking sensor that is "falling into" the bumper in December and told them to hold off until Spring when they open the new SC and the service time is hopefully not as long.
