Gear Guard Intermittent Connection

The intermittent connection of USB-C ports in the center console causes gear guard not working all the time on my new R1S (took delivery on 9/6)

I have to do software restart to get them working... but it then stops working next time when I start the car... it seems like a software issue.. not sure if others have the same problem

I've seen this recently with the last update. I have to reset the infotainment to both 1) get the drive to connect and 2) see all the motion cam and incident videos. They just disappear until I restart. I would say I've restarted 4-5 times now since updating last week.

Prior to this I only occasionally had an issue with the drive not connecting. I assume they'll fix this in an upcoming release.

I've had my R1S Gen.2 for just over 2 weeks. I got around to installing a 2TB Sandisk Extreme potable SSD about 10 days ago. It didn't like it when I first plugged in, everything went blank/black and then a Rivian logo appeared and slowly everything came back. I assume this was some kind of self induced reboot. It then worked for a while until it didn't (quite possibly the next time I started the car). I took the drive out and plugged it into my PC and there is some footage on there so it did work for a while.
I haven't tried putting it back in yet.

Mine has gone out for seemingly no apparent reason randomly as well. The 1st time I noticed it was when I came back to my truck to notice its first major door ding. I got in to ask Gary what happened and apparently he was asleep at the time.

Yup, same issue for me. Have to soft reset for the usb-c to recognize the SSD. Hopefully, the fix this issue soon since I’m not capturing any potential incidences.

Same with me - also picked up 9/6. Soft reboot fixed it this morning. If it does it again, I'll report in app. Hope all who are having issue are reporting to make well known.

Same issue here! Glad I’m not the only one and came to the forum searching for “disappeared”. Hard restart worked… for like a day. I was about to include it in my appointment tomorrow for (what I thought would be related) borked ADAS system. Looks like a software glitch from the recent update more like.

I reached out to my contact at Rivian and they are aware. Issue is related to USB power management. I was advised the next OTA should resolve.

I talked to Rivian service and they said they have no other complaints of this but mine and offered to get me in at the next available appointment which is over 2 months away here in San Jose.
My conclusions
A: They are liars
B: Rivian vehicles are great but warranty and service is dubious at best

Mine occasionally disconnects and then reconnects itself without me having to do anything. However, yesterday it told me I had to reformat the SSD drive that I have attached. Not sure why. I did it and it all works now. Strange.
