Gear guard saves me

I go out of my way to park next to EVs and other vehicles where the owner might not being walking around raging with FUD on the brain.

What's FUD on the brain. Never heard that before

Anywhere I take the Rivian, I always try to park past the furthest cart return for a number of reasons:

• I don't have to worry about the motorized cart movers that whacked the OP's R1T
• If people don't take their carts to the cart returns, they usually put them up on a curb or in the grass where they're less likely to roll into my car
• Nobody is playing "Putt-Putt" trying to get their cart into the cart return from 50 feet away

That last one actually happened to me...Years ago I parked next to a cart return and was heading into the store when I saw a cart rolling at a good clip right towards my car. I ran and stopped it and looked around and a young gentleman was watching from a distance. He shrugged his shoulders, got in his car, and left. I was too dumbfounded to do anything other than watch him drive away. That was the last time I parked near a cart return.

As much as I enjoy driving the Rivian, when I'm headed to a big box store I'm much more likely to take my 2016 Highlander to avoid the stress!

The mass disinformation campaign used to slow down the adoption of EVs. Often times it's used to rile people up and they may see your EV as a focal point to inflict damage onto.

Did you have a chat with the management of whatever store you were at, or just letting the insurance company deal with the communication?

Just to add some knowledge here, some insurance companies offer a no-claims discount and will remove it for ANY claim. Even not at fault. It's literally a discount for never having made a claim, so I'd go direct to the store to get paid.

I can't even imagine not saying something if I were that kid. Accidents happen but it is an entirely different thing to lie about it or walk away without reporting it. Yes, you might still lose your job but at least you can look yourself in the mirror.... WTF.

That’s why I feel sorry for that kid. He’s obviously not had a good example for why integrity is important. In this example this kid would have been better off coming clean and taking his chances being fired because by not coming clean he’s guaranteed to get fired.

As you said though the even bigger thing is how acting in an underhanded way damages your self worth. You can put on a face to everyone else that is whatever you want to show but you can never hide from yourself. I’ve made tons of mistakes in my life but the only ones that really hurt me emotionally were when I was acting in a manner that didn’t reflect the sort of person I wish to be.

Yeah, unmarked, dented up old white service vans with enough rust that you can see inside the cargo area without opening the doors. The same vans that when they do open the rear doors, screws and nails fall out on to the parking lot asphalt and the operators don't pick them up. When they buy sheetrock they just toss the separators on the ground and leave it there. Basically pigs that don't care about litter, leaving a trail of nails and screws behind and certainly won't hesitate to leave the scene if they chip your door while getting in their van or if they tap your vehicle while backing up.. ghetto contractors.

I think the objection was to using the word “ghetto” to describe it. That word could have a negative racial connotation although I don’t believe you meant to have the reader infer one. Sketchy contractor would be a better term.

So true. And we have all been there. I hope that whatever happens he has learned the right lessons from this.
