I wish the NTSA would "order" Rivian to deploy Android Auto and Apple Carplay. At least in the interim until they have a voice input (not garbage Alexa) to announce a map destination. More importantly how does a vehicle like this not have a voice input text messaging feature.
Rivian can say all they want how they're working on it (like, for years now) but in the meantime they should be given a 1month deadline to enable Android Auto & Carplay or a stop sale order.
In the meantime I've ordered EV Play and willl have full Android auto & carplay in the next few weeks.
While we're at it, we should ban the resale of all cars built before 1999 and all others unless the owner adds aftermarket hardware to support Android Auto and CarPlay...

This is a dumb idea.

Don't be silly. There is this thing called "grandfathering" in. But when there are currently available safety features like the voice to text in Android Auto that an automotive manufacturer refuses to implement that's stupid. Rivian will only do the "right thing" and make it available if they are forced to. The threat of a stop sale order should do the trick!

Yes, don't be silly. AA and CP are NOT a safety feature. A responsible driver doing the "right thing" is the safety feature.

I just don’t get it. Google maps has been the gold standard for eons, and it’s phenomenal with EVs. I don’t get why Rivian wouldn’t just skin it and call it a day. My polestar has just a re-skinned Google maps and it’s perfect, no notes. Autoroutes, handles charge predictions exceptionally well: I would be confident putting an EV newbie in it, choosing a destination 2k miles away, and just tell them to have fun. With the Rivian I know I’d be getting calls within the hour.
This is how my Hummer with Google works as well, so when Rivian announced they were using Google I had high expectations. It also uses Google Assistant, not the worthless Alexa for voice controls.

First long trip about 650 miles in the Rivian planned for a route I’ve done at least 50 times. The routing the app and navigation has is horrible. If I just put in start and finish and let it route the entire trip it adds about 2 hours to the trip. I used ABRP to route the same trip and the routing is exactly what I’ve done in the past. I’ve checked and double checked filters, charger compatibility, road closures and it seems Rivian just sucks at routing. I went so far as to tediously route from charger to charger for the route I want to go making sure the start SOC and time at each is manually set correctly which results in a perfectly fine route without any additional stops needed and plenty of arrival range (80 miles).
