It appears to be designed to scare the #### out of the driver and everyone else on the road.

Staying between the lines is surprisingly hard when it is only pushing on one corner.

Has anyone else seen or heard of a Rivian acting like this?

The camera is all over the place because the whole vehicle was shaking as the one motor doing all of the pushing erratically gained and lost power and caused the vehicle to try to spin out.

There were no error messages on the screen during or after. Max speed was around 50, but not due to turtle mode, it just couldn't push the car any faster than that with one wheel pushing erratically and three wheels regenerating erratically.

No human response yet, but the AI customer (non)service bot said they would take a look at it in December.

I suspect on Monday a human will look at the ticket and get me in sooner.

That's nuts. Did you try a hard reset? Also, it might be worth just calling after you try both a hard reset, and walking away from the vehicle for 30 minutes (45 just to be safe)

Also, what happens if you change to sport mode, still only one motor?

Yeah I wouldn’t leave something like this to the chatbot. Call service at 855-748-4265.

Changing drive modes raised and lowered the vehicle as expected but did not stop the erratic behavior. In hindsight, I probably should have given eco mode a longer chance. I put it back in all purpose when it didn't immediately resolve the situation, but it it might the have been easier to control a misbehaving front axle than a misbehaving rear.

I didn't want to pull over and stop out of fear that once I stopped it would never start again and I would be stuck on the side of the road, but when I got home I did reboot. Rebooting once improved the situation but it was still behaving a bit wonky. Rebooting a second time appers to have fixed it but I do not believe this isn't some sort of hardware problem.

I suspect a sensor involved in the traction control system was reporting inaccurate information. The car probably thought I was spinning out of control down the highway and was trying to help. But its mistaken belief was very nearly self-fulfilling prophecy.

Did it start just after the recent update? My theory if that's the case, is some software component didn't fully take a d is causing the erroneous drive issues.

Fingers crossed the reboot holds and resolved the issue. Definitely the first time I've seen this mentioned. Typically it's one Axel that goes.

I did install this week's update, but it drove normally for a day or two before it went nuts. It even drove normally for the first 5 minutes of the scary drive. It certainly could be related to the update, but it's not as simple as the update immediately causing failure.

Rivian did call me to come in ASAP. They reviewed the logs, tested the sensors, and inspected the tires.

Their conclusion was that everything was fine and I just need to rotate my tires. It had only been 5K miles, but I guess that was too long. 🤷‍♂️
