The mesh grill isn't a problem. But hanging a heavy speaker off of it was a colossally stupid idea. I suspect this was done for assembly considerations but the speaker should have been mounted to a structural element, not a trim piece.
Yeah, there should have been a brace or other structural attachment point at that central area since that would probably keep the center screen from shaking, too. The screen shaking doesn’t bother me as much, but the behavior of that central dash area really undermines the quality of the rest of the interior, in my opinion.

@HaveBlue did a DIY on this last winter that documents the process to fix this rattle. Here'a link to that discussion.

Mine was pretty obnoxious about this rattle when new and I was able to kill about 90% of that rattle by putting small piece of warm brown sticky felt (like you'd put chair leg to protect a hard wood floor) under the speaker grill. It was a bit of a wiggling match to get it down there but it's hidden pretty well and stood up over the past two years. I figure if the thing gets worse, then I'll tackle removing the grill and doing it right.

Here's a picture of the felt piece way down in the center of the dash (it it just to the left of my-phone reflection):

We used to have a cabin in Green Valley Lake, so practically next door neighbors!

Have you ever taken 2N02 and Burns Canton from Big Bear (Baldwin Lake area) to/from Rimrock near Pioneertown?

There are some interesting trails in the area. We’ve done Rattlesnake Canyon in our Land Rover LR3 a couple times but haven’t had a chance to do it in a Rivian yet.

Then I disassembled my gen 1 I found this plastic duct was causing a lot of the noise. They should have made it out of rubber. It was rattling against the screen deck. Unfortunately my hand is blocking it but I do remember seeing a mount point you could utilize. I could definitely 3d print a bracket that utilizes that point and will hold the speaker in place. But I’m going to be honest. Since my current gen 2 doesn’t have any rattles in the dash I’m not going to open it up. I’m currently dealing with a few door rattles and with the redesigned door panels. It’s almost guaranteed you will break the small plastic piece that covers a screw you need to remove. So you have to rely on the service center.

I’m in the Redondo Beach, CA area I have a 3d scanner. If anyone is close by and wants to work on this project together maybe we can work something out.

Yea there are some pretty nasty side roads down to pioneer Town but the main one is fine. We have a gx470 with armour and a locking dif for the bad stuff.

Rattlesnake canyon should be fine for the rivian.
