If you are cross shopping a model 3 and an R1T that probably means you don’t need a truck. If that’s the case get an EV car that’s going to be far more efficient anyway. The only reason I’m waiting on the R1T is because we need a pickup and I’d like it to be electric. Otherwise I’d have placed an order for the Taycan Cross Turismo.

also - the VW id4 has an atrocious infotainment set up. I could never live with it. Check out the Mach E and the new KIA/ Hyundai offerings. They are all better than that VW .

Thank you all for your inputs. Writing this as I'm sitting at Tesla delarship,

Update: Spoke to that friend who know someone on the inside. Got this statement "expect more delays". Not sure how much I can trust that, but taking a hedge now.

Decision: Just finalized the deal on a Tesla Model X. Signed all the paperwork, sitting at the dealer, they are getting it ready. Will be driving it home tonight.

Backup: Keeping my Rivian order intact.

Will keep checking here.

I'm guessing you bought used since getting a new version of the X is impossible? :)

Hope you enjoy it, I love the doors. I'm looking forward to getting rid of it next fall when either the R1S or the ID Buzz replace it, whichever comes first.

Agree the doors on the X is why I purchased the S, they just looked like a problem waiting to happen with no upside to me. If they were normal doors I would have gone with the X.

Sorry, I'm in a bit of a mood this morning....

Don't make life decisions based on FOMO. Your purchasing decision appears to be influenced more by emotion than logic (insert random Spock meme here). If the Rivian is what you want (it doesn't appear that you need it, an issue others have already addressed), put on your big boy pants and learn to be patient. The Rivian will happen.
If you insist!

I moved on last summer and got a Mach E, after waiting 2+ years. Coming back and reading this forum validates my decision. I got the Mach E for my wife and I have a Hummer reservation. GM announced they are increasing production this year and they have moved up delivery dates for some people already. Each week on the Hummer forums real customers take delivery.

Currently a reservation holder, bought my wife the ID4. The 3yrs free charging, fed rebate, availability, and no dealer gouging sold us. It is a great value vehicle purchase, not a great electronic performance toy. Have had it for almost a year and most of my problems/complaints have been corrected via OTA updates. I am sick of driving/fueling my Ram 1500 and will likely buy another ID4 for myself while I wait for my R1T. I do use trucks as trucks, but can rent or use a trailer for a bit if needed. With free charging, getting another rebate and high resale...I will probably profit from it. Teslas are great electronics but not great cars imo. I get sunburned regularly in my in-laws Teslas (model 3 & model Y). If you are just buying time I would get the ID4 and make a profit, I'm not trying to impress anyone with my ride while I wait for my Rivian though. It has to fit your "needs"

Ummm, I like my ID.4, but there literally haven’t been any OTA updates.

This is an interesting thread, and even though the OP already made a decision, here is my plan as an Avalanche/Ram1500/F150 driver for over 20 years... I took the bait and placed my order for a Lightning Lariat this week [think I am the only reservation holder who got one for 2022MY from my dealer]; higher trim levels are already getting build dates/VINS assigned. I expect to get sometime around mid year. I have the R1T reservation for 4Q2022, but unless better info comes soon, I expect that to push out to 2023... Rivian has not been reliable in their info. What is different in this day and age is it appears a new EV doesn't loose it's value like a traditional 'drive it off the lot' scenario in the past. I can sell the lightning once my R1T reservation delivers, or keep it if I like it. If I get much better info from Rivian over next few months, I can still cancel the Lightning order - my dealer will happily refund my deposit and then sell the truck off the lot for $10-20k over MSRP. As the Lightning is a 'transition' truck and the Rivian's tech may be getting dated, I also have a Evalanche reservation on hand for 2-3 years out has a hedge. I'll also sign up for the 2nd gen Ford Lightning which is planned to be designed ground up as an EV.... kind of begs the question about when the R2T will be announced.... R1T design was late 2018... I get all the reasons why it's late, but they have to be looking at gen 2 by now. Ford is. Chevy/Ram will be 2nd gen tech when they come out...

I've been driving my Parents X all week while visiting them. It's a solid car and great to drive but I hate hate hate the falcon doors. They area a pain in the butt in almost ever situation from the garage to getting out of the car in a parking lot. For all their complexity they are simply not an improvement over regular doors.

Hello dear Forum members,

I have been following this forum for some time now, and today decided to join. So this is my first post.
It has been 3 years and 4 months since I placed my order for a Rivian R1T.

The only information I have is my delivery window of March / April

I have called / emailed / followed up / asked for escalation / reached out to Rivian employees on LinkedIn / asked a friend who knows some senior VP at Rivian to get more information /

NO LUCK - Can't get a straight answer. It's always the most generic response, which is now doing two things.

ONE - It makes me upset. Yes it does, because they can and should be less vague.
TWO - Should I continue to wait or move on? Will this ever happen.

I'd love to see what do members here think?

Help me - I have options this week to go buy another EV, which are available.

Option 1 - Buy brand new Tesla Model 3 TODAY
Option 2 - Buy brand new VW ID4 TODAY
Option 3 - Keep waiting for this magic to happen from Rivian

Anyone else moved on to another car?
I'm worried if I keep waiting, what if I loose the option for these EVs and Rivian never keeps their promise.

Thanks for help.
It’s like you read my mind, I am in the same boat. But I made decision based on a few factor
- do I want or need EV - want
- do I want something premium or normal would do - want premium
- do I want to take advantage of tax rebates - yes (Tesla out of mix)
- do I need to replace my cars right now ? - not needed but want to - so I convinced myself to invest is fixing my existing car yes instead of going of ID4

risk :- R1S that I am waiting on turn out to be lemon I am screwed but I trust in our legal system. the inconvenience is going to be the pain So to mitigate that inconvenience a little bit I will only trade my premium sedan for R1S and keep the 3 row suv

that’s just my situation, hope that helps April 2019 order holder here

My advice, wait and be patient. Grandma always said, good things come to those that wait...
My grandma always said, "All ass or no ass, ain't no half-ass in my house!" But she was the mother of a Florida Man, so...

My scheduled/delayed charging now works. If I plugged in my charger which doesn't turn on until after midnight the car would fault and not charge until about 2-3 months ago. Unless they flashed an update when I had the recalls done, I assumed this was a OTA update.
