How much extra would you pay for your desired R2 paint color?

Tesla charges $1,000 for blue and white, $1,500 for black, and $2,000 for silver and red. Gray is the included color. Black is the included interior. White is $1,000 more.

I'm aware. My observations were based on how Rivian has done colors for the R1, as well as how they seem to be slightly higher than Tesla on some options.

All speculation, but I don't think I'm too far off.

My wife is interested in the Subaru Uncharted. I think she should wait until the R3 debuts. BUT I have to say Subaru has the optional paint prices right. Only $475 for Habanero Orange.

Agree good paint options and prices. Even the Porsche Macan electric has black and white as free colors, four additional colors for under $1000 and four for around $1300 so hopefully Rivian takes note and prices paints under $1000 (preferably $500).

Some people want something other than the German Rainbow (black, white, dark gray, lighter gray/silver), but don’t want to be overcharged just to express themselves. It gives the vehicle character, too. And don’t just say you can wrap it. Wraps can end up being more expensive than paint if you want a decent one. I’ve heard people say it can be around $6,000 to wrap a vehicle depending on its size, type of wrap, labor, etc.

Again, if you don’t care about color to each their own. There are certainly more important factors, like the vehicle doing what you need it to do reliably. Vehicles are emotional purchases for many people though.

Anything over $500 is a cash grab knowing people are buying emotionally so will pay for what they want even if it's pure profit for the car company. With a few exceptions, almost everyone does it including Rivian.

Mazda, Subaru, Hyundai are pretty decent in this respect.

Typically I take what I save from paint options and put it towards other upgrades such as PPF or wheels/tires.

I've been getting impatient with the R2 and looking at the Uncharted as well. ~300mi range and top trim is 45k... not too shabby.

It’s definitely smaller than an R2. Another issue is having to put up with a dealership and markup. It’s hard to say what the UI will be like or if it will have OTA updates. I like the styling though.

Overall it’s good to see that Toyota, and as a result Subaru, are actually going to develop EVs and not just wait for a hydrogen future that’s never going to come to pass (at least not for passenger vehicles).

I am thinking $500 is more like it. Why do they need to charge at all for different colors? Perhaps if they explained it to the buying public we may feel differently. If it is change over at the paint shop, then poll you reservation holders on which color they prefer and build in batches.

The Trailseeker or bZ Woodland is the same size and the well equipped Toyota base model has $5000 cash off from Toyota so it starts very close to the Subaru base model price of $41k including destination.

I’m still looking at the R2 at the end of 2027 when my lease is up and all trims are available and then the R3 for my wife in 2028. Although I might swap her at that point. The R3 is what I’ve really been waiting for.

I guess that will depend on the Georgia plant and the R2 line being set up there. They might still be working on exporting it to Europe to mess with the R3. I hope not.

I mentioned the Trailseeker and bZ Woodland because you had said the Uncharted was smaller than R2, so gave you options that are the same size as R2.
Software is the weak spot (along with no true one pedal driving and the instrument cluster location). It doesn’t have routing for chargers. Has some OTA capability and covers the other basics of an infotainment system.

They are cars for people who are in the mainstream and not early RV adopters.
