Got my R1T delivered about 3 weeks ago. Needed to haul some 10' conduit to my other house 40 miles away for the wall charger install. The charger had arrived, but not my cargo bars, so I had to improvise. With no driveshaft or exhaust system in the way I just used a rope between the front tow hooks and the trailer hitch. Worked so well I think a belly pod of some sort would be a handy accessory. Loving my LA Silver OC truck- no problems at all so far (except new EV driver learning curve).

Final Destination-esque transportation of materials. The tailgate down makes the bed area about 7 feet long, the three feet of hangover would have been safer.

Have to say, I love this idea. Wonder if it can be adapted to haul 4x10's? ?

Jokes aside, whatever EV truck I wind up with first (am on the waiting list for all of them), I'll trade it immediately for a proper EV work truck with long bed, as soon as one of the manufacturers releases one of those.

I'm not brand-loyal at this point. As excited as I am to get a Rivian (am Assuming the Rivian will arrive, first), it will go right on the auction block the minute any manufacturer can sell me a long bed work truck.

I consider the worst that can happen- in this case a broken rope, and lightweight plastic scattering across the roadway. Seems attempting to tie down to the bed would be less safe.
An under pod could be practical on a vehicle like this with all the unobstructed clearance underneath if attach points are available.

There's stuff on the road all the time here. If there was a dead deer in the middle of your lane it could catch those pipes and stand them up for whoever is driving behind you to impact their windshield.

Ingenious. You'll still have way more clearance than most of the other cars out there. That seems a lot safer to me than trying to hang those out the back. A sliding rear window in the next software update would be great.

Heck, I'd give up "rear seat access to the gear tunnel" to get a slide-down rear window.

Maybe the vehicles without a tonneau could get a pass-through to the gear tunnel that is in line with the rear seat gear tunnel access?

It’s what happens IF they scatter across the highway that makes it dangerous. It could surprise someone behind you and they swerve or cause an accident. I don’t know where you live, but around here there is frequently ‘stuff’ in the roads, like rocks or tumbleweeds or even a ladder the other day. Any of those could catch on it.

The pod might be a different story, but I agree with others that it would have been safer to just flag the 3’ hanging off the end of the tailgate.

I haven’t even looked to see where my hitch is located. I’ll have to read my manual. (Truck newbie)

Someone needs to invent telescoping pipe.

I think that's brilliant no different than someone tying shit on their roof. Rope could break then too.

Below is a detailed Home Depot How-To

- Lay some ratchet straps on the ground
- Stack 20 or 30 12' 2x4's on them while getting all sorts of looks
- Walk to the Rivian, put it in highest ride height, drive over them.
- Drop to lowest ride height
- Ratchet them down through the front footwell, and gear tunnel, close the doors
- Put the ride height back to normal or high (depending on the height of the load), and drive off...

Arrive at house, or job site, drive to where you want them, release the straps, and drive away!
