I am in the middle of a road trip. I traveled from Washington state to Utah. Now I need to go back and am kinda nervous about this issue.

I have seen a few people comment on this in other unrelated posts so I thought I would create a post to see if others had good insight.

If my truck charges at over 200kw for more than 5 minutes it errors out. The app says it’s the charger’s issue. this has happened at 3 chargers. If I disconnect and reconnect it goes back over 200 again, but until the charge down curve (over 55%ish) it will keep erroring out.

anyone having same issues? Anyone have any ideas? I think I will just stay on 150kw stations until I figure out the issues.

Pic 1 and 2, I reset the charging right away on error.
Pic 3, I let it continue charging at the derated 45kw and it actually still errors (not pictured)
Pic 4, if charging is finally under 200 it charges at a normal curve.

Those 350kw chargers are temperamental. Just charge at the 150 chargers and it’s nearly the same time.

It’s not your car. I have an r1t and R1S and this exact thing happens to me Everytime at the Jacksonville EA station. If it’s ever above a rate of 200, we derate after 5 min. I have to keep unplugging over and over again until the state of charge is above 50% so the speed is a bit less than it works. It’s the temp sensor in the EA plugs that are not good with rivians

The charging at 200ish kW and then dropping to 40 kW after about 5 min is pretty consistent with cable cooling having failed on the station you're using (with Electrify America). Sometimes you can look at PlugShare and see folks reporting which stations aren't working properly vs which ones are before you plug in. If there aren't any valid/recent reports, you can usually tell you're going to have a problem if after the contactors engage and charging begins if you don't hear the cable cooling pumps spool up. You'll know the difference when you hear it...or don't. Often you can change stalls/dispensers and find one that is working properly.

Thanks for all the replies. This does calm me. I rarely fast charge because I use this truck within 100 mile radius of my home. I have 17k miles and 14 months. Only had this happen once before. Figured it was a fluke the first time. I feel better about the return trip now since it’s happened multiple times now.

Try hard resetting your truck. Are these all at electric America? If so it's common that the cable cooling isn't working and when the cable overheats, the charging speedsbgdt reduced
