What do you use as the vehicle type when Quoting with Geico? It’s not in their system and SUV is not a vehicle type when trying to select a 2027 Rivian.

Answered when I got my purchase agreement today. The R2 is classified as a wagon. Insurance quote is saved, waiting on a delivery date before completing that task.

Strangely, Geico quoted me a little over $600/6 mo when I added a LE VIN. It was wildly cheap, so much so I thought it was a mistake, but all the data was right. You might try them? Even if it is a mistake, hey, they should honor it.

This is a great point -- shopping around instead of just reflexively staying with your current carrier is a smart move.

If you can't afford to bump up your insurance from from statutory minimum coverage, you can't afford a Rivian. Get a Bolt instead.

I've been spending 1900 on student loans that finally end next month. that's why I was on a minimum coverage. I only buy things I like, want, and will care for and wouldn't trust a Bolt making it through snow in RI.

I live in central Iowa - we have a house, multiple vehicles, umbrella, and clean driving records. For me to add the R2 with State Farm will be $54/month. I have high coverage limits as well - 250/500/100 with low deductibles $250/$500. Oddly cheaper than my current Ionic6.

Purchasing automotive insurance is a complex topic with many variables. Are you bundling and if so how many cars, how many drivers, driver’s histories, claim records, type of cars, type of house and location, credit history? If your present car is bundled with your homeowner’s insurance you may be married to your current insurance company because it and other companies have stopped writing new homeowner’s insurance in your area and the total present bundled cost is superior to piecemeal placement of your insurance needs among different companies. A decision not made lightly particularly if you reside out west where wildfires have had a profound impact on the cost and type of insurance available including automotive.

USAA quoted me $125-ish a month in a ballpark estimate. I have 4 cars, 4 drivers, 1 accident, and my homeowners on the policy.

Another data point, I have 3 cars about $200 each every 6 month with State Farm in midwest. My insurance quote for replacing my 2009 Honda Civic with a R2 would be about $360 every 6 months. Not bad, I hope it holds until I can purchase the R2.

I'm reminded that all these insurance rate discussion is like taking about price of homes. It is all location and condition dependent.

The same vehicle in metropolitan city vs rural community or same location with different driver's records and/or age, bundled, multi car or single policy, and so on.

It's almost meaningless without the particulars.

Agreed but I do find value in the posts where people share what they are moving from and the difference in cost. That paints a clearer picture for me in terms of what to expect.
