Interior driver camera on a 2024?

Took delivery of my second 2024 R1S (first one was a manufacturer buyback) this past weekend. VIN 44xxx and build date 3/2024. Noticed it has the cutout for the driver monitoring camera. I thought these were discontinued?

Of note two R1S I’ve previous driven, build dates 12/2023 and 2/2024 did not have this. Does anyone have a 2024 with this?

They were disabled, but its possible they may still be used for future iterations of Driver+

I wouldn't discount the possibility they simply used an "older" panel when assembling.

My thoughts exactly. I actually don’t mind. It would make for a “unique” 2024.

Wonder if actually has a camera behind the cover. They only dropped it because of a minority concern from customers about privacy. Ford managed to put one above the steering wheel for blue cruise and nobody really cared.

Yes that is what I read as well - it wasn't a good enough camera to capture the face of all drivers in different seating positions and height, so they decided to stop using it.

My 2024 does not have the overhead console camera, or even a place for it..

But my 2024 does have what appears to be 2 cameras on the Speedo Cluster. I noticed it when I installed my Matte Screen Protectors.

Do I know for sure they are cameras? I dont, but they sure look like it, but they could also be ambient light sensors.

Definitely ambient light sensors. They are on all three displays.

Nope, ambient light sensors. Mics are up near where the camera was on the head liner.

A nicely trimmed piece of black electrical tape takes care of any concern.

I used Scotch tape to beat Elon Musk. My Tesla was using the camera to detect road attention, and it was overly sensitive. Plus on Autopilot there's not reason not to look away when there's nobody around and the road is wide open, so I'd read messages or whatever. Black tape seemed to have some issues, but Scotch translucent tape was just enough for it to never see my eyes.

Liquid White out (if you have the white interior) would also work..
