I've had a multitude of problems with EA chargers in the past two days on a trip thru Las Vegas.

Barstow, Baker and Henderson would not charge past 37kW. I tried 5 different chargers in Baker and the sessions stopped after 2 min.

Maybe it's the heat as it was 120 yesterday.

Resetting didn't work, but turning off gear guard and walking away for 10 minutes did the trick.
Same question as the other posters. Why would a deep sleep fix something that a hard reset couldn't?

No idea, Rivian support didn't ask me to do a hard reset. Also I am not sure if it was the sleep that fixed the problem since when it did work the stations where flipped into complimentary/free mode.

I will try another EA station in Dallas this weekend. I will also probably try and avoid the Waco EA station on the way home (because I will have family in town from Japan and don't need to put them through the possibility of getting out of the car for 10 minutes if it comes to that).

I‘m not even sure if the amperage limit still exists, I haven’t encountered it in a couple months, including my whole trip to the SW.
The 350KW charger in Ennis, TX maxed out at 49KW. The 150K station next to it maxed out at 165KW.

So far on my trip all 350KW stations have been broken "off" or "Not Available" on the charger screen, or maxed at ~50KW.

To be clear that is not the issue that @SeaGeo was taking about. It was reported by Out of Spec a while back that certain EA 350kW chargers were limited to 150kW due to a voltage issues of some kind, even know EA claimed they were capable of higher.

My contention is that that has been fixed. In fact I saw a max rate of 209kW in Hood River OR (While in March I couldn’t get more than 154kW) yesterday and on my trip through the SW I saw similar results at chargers in:

Hermiston, OR - 215kW max
Huntington, OR - 203kW max
Boise, ID - 216kW max
Heyburn, ID - 192kW max
Spanish Fork, UT - 219kW max
Green River, UT - 183kW max
Winslow, AZ - 202kW max
Williams, AZ - 218kW max
Kingsman, AZ - 217kW max
Barstow, CA - 203kW max
Bakersfield, CA - 209kW max
Lost Hills, CA - 213kW max
Anderson, CA - 213kW max
Yreka, CA - 216kW max
Sutherlin, OR 208kW max

That said it does sound like @RivianXpress was having the issue you described at some of these chargers recently so that is a new issue, possibly due to the heat wave. Hoping that issue gets sorted out.

I don't have the specific data that jjswan does, but I do know that i saw over 200 on i think every 350 EA station I used in NE, IA, CO, ID, and OR on my big road trip.

I had an issue where an EA charger in Evanston, WY worked for me on the outbound leg of a trip, but not on the return a few hours later. I chalked it up to user error since I’d had an issue with fraud on my credit card and the card issuer may have denied it. I didn’t need the charge to get home, and really didn’t have time to debug it, so after trying and failing on 3 different chargers I just bailed on it.

One other cause could have been that I hadn’t put any money into my EA account. Does anyone know if you have to do that before charging, or does it just bill your credit card at the end of each charge? I’m new to EA, and to using mobile pay on my iPhone, so still learning all the nuances. On the successful charge, it pulled up my credit card directly from my apply wallet vs. pulling up the EA app. That’s part of what led me to believe the issue was with my credit card on the failed session, as I also got an alert from the credit card company wanting me to verify the transaction.

I have an auto reload setup on the EA app, it will pull in $10 increments from my CC as I charge.

When you pay with the EA "card" in your apple wallet it's not actually charging your credit card. it is pulling from your EA balance. You have up actively add money to that balance.

In the app there is an autoload feature whereby you can have EA load money wherever your balance drops below $5 (not sure if that's customizable).

That’s what I suspected. Thanks for clarifying, and I did set up the auto reload after I got home from that trip. Hopefully the next attempt will be more better. ?

Okay, an update. I was on the phone with EA and what I learned is that they use three different manufacturers and this manufacturer does not work with Rivian. They have created a case with the manufacturer to fix this ... story continues.
Any clues how a novice would know if they are dealing with one of the units that don't play well with a Rivian?

Edit: Sorry, as I did not read the latest posts that clearly show the units giving issues. I will post what a "good" charger looks like the next time I travel to Salem or Newport in Oregon (unless of course someone has already posted that as well). Man you guys are fast! :bandit:

I used that station last week and it was good to go. I was able to charge on one of the 350kw units. Guess EA is hit or miss.
I would say that although a PIA, it seems completely understandable given the shear number of potential issues involved. Of course that would all be irrelevant if it happened to me.

So, last year when it was about 110 in Seattle I had the only real issues with EA that I had while charging the VW. The chargers do not seem like they're designed to perform well when it's thar hot. At least when it's not in the shade.

Out of curiosity, did to check which of those were ABB vs signet chargers?
