I am sorry to hear that your order has been delayed without an explanation. However, I have heard that changing your configuration pushes you back in the line, even if there are other people with the same configuration that ordered after you. It's the change that puts you further back. Rivian CS recommended that I keep my config the same until it is time to confirm my configuration and I have a guide assigned.

Did you happen to change your config between delivery estimate updates?
The Guides are not fully aware of the Rivian practices on this. Rivian forced me to change my configuration in Oct of last year. Apparently they did not decide that they weren't going to allow Canyon with Forest Edge until the end of running Black Mountain. Then it was too late to get black mountain, why? Because they were producing Forest Edge. I'm done with these guys, but not cancelling my order.

Why don’t you just short the stock? Such a waste of valuable time and effort wasted messing around with your order

Order date means little or nothing. It's mostly about proximity to a Service Center. I have a November 28, 2018 order date but live over 300 miles from the nearest Rivian Service Center. I can't even get a estimated delivery window, nor will they allow me access to the R1 Shop.
....
Proximity to a Service Center AND if your closest center has "bandwidth" to schedule your delivery vs. already booked full for 2 years of deliveries.

My personal recommendation is not to cancel it. Because cancelling it will not hurt them, they will find the next person in line to take the delivery. And chances are, they might even sell it at the Post-March price.

I say, take the delivery if you can swing the finance and flip it.
This way you make money off of it, if the demand for Rivian is still there.
You're making way too much sense for a user forum...

Pretending Rvian isn't burning goodwill at serious clip among its early supporters is laughable. I was a huge early proponent of the company, but am no longer. I still hold RIVN shares in the 4 figure range but I will be looking to dump some of that shortly. They may be able to rehabilitate their failing image at some point, but I am not 100% sure. I will hang on to my reservation and figure out what to do when my delivery day actually occurs. Probably play with it for a day, see if I can flip in a couple days and if not, then return it under 7 days.
Sad, but I think true. When I encourage others to buy an R1T or R1S, there's an asterisk.

R.J. was exceedingly apologetic and spoke of trust as he reversed the infamous "March 2022 price gouge" but now we're a month away from March '23 and good grief it's been 12 months of inexplicable "message garbled" from Rivian:
  1. Max Pack
  2. the price is different
  3. the vehicle is different
  4. dual motor
  5. same dual motor but pay more to make it faster in the software
  6. Driver+
  7. Tank Turn
  8. winch
  9. shuttle
  10. kitchen
  11. tonneau
  12. frunk shrunk
  13. 12V outlet
  14. tie-downs
  15. 180Âş tailgate

I'm still an energetic evangelist and advocate, but my early enthusiasm has whittled down to "love the vehicle, loathe the corporation" … how the hell did the Rivian executives and board let that happen in 12 months?! Tesla took years to degenerate …

Not sure what I am going to do. I just bought a 2023 Chevy Bolt EUV. So I will get the $7500 for buying it. I still have the Rivian R1T reservation (pre March pricing) because I am not sure what to do. I know the Bolt is in no way an R1T but I wanted an EV because of the price of gas here in PA And already having a level 2 charger installed for my Volt (which will no longer take a charge) I wanted to use electric and not gas. Have a First Mile Demo Drive @ Wed Mar 1, 2023 scheduled at the Brooklyn SC so I can see how much of a pain it is to get to that SC and drive an R1T.

Are you going to do comparisons of all the other manufacturers concept vehicles to their actual production vehicles, or just pretend it’s just Rivian?

This post pains me a lot to write, but...

I got my R1S reservation in December '21, and was told then to expect a 2nd half - 23 delivery. Then the next iteration of delivery schedules come out in October (I believe), and it slips to first half of '24. Then, last months delivery schedule announcement pushes it out to 2nd half of 24, of which I now expect to be November- December of 24, at the earliest.

On top of my anticipated three year wait, I see that many new reservation holders have jumped the line, in Rivian's attempt to generate higher revenue per vehicle. I would love to have a Rivian, and I love the looks of them as I see them driving down the road. But, you know, life moves on, and I have found better things to do with my money, and I agreed with my wife that maybe we should forego the Rivian in favor of those things.

So I am not going to take the Rivian. I am really ticked off at Rivian because of this. IMO, these pushbacks have been Riv's way of saying to us pre-price increase orders "Yes, you can have your Rivian, but F-You, you'll get it when we want you to get it, and only after everyone else gets theirs." I feel part of their motivation is to push these out as long as possible to force us either to cancel, or ship only when it is convenient for them.

So I am not going to cancel my order. Instead, sometime after I get my 8-steps notification, and only before I absolutely have to pay for the Rivian, will I cancel. This is my F-You back to them. I know it's minor, I know they don't really care and will just move my reservation to the next one in line but it's the only little thing I can do. After all, if I cancel now, then RJ, Sandy, and others can just point to my cancellation as evidence that pushing deliveries out for us is working. I am not going to give them that little bit of satisfaction.
I waited 4 years, and love the vehicle as much as I have loved a thing. Please consider if you wait that long to cancel you are only slowing the person behind you.

I am sorry for the situation, and the good news is at some point this will be something that you don't think about anymore as you are cruising in what ever you go with. Best D.

Rivian toured the country with "this is what we're building" vehicles. I attended one of those events, then drove the R1T at a "First Mile" event, then ordered the vehicle and spoke with a guide about these details "you can wait for the winch and Max Pack" and "do you want the camp kitchen" were topics in the final days of deciding how my R1T would be built and delivered (in late 2021 that stretched into early 2022.)

My "message garbled" post was about communication and de-contenting of the production vehicle, not about concept-vs-production.

LOL. It comes from going through the 4 stages of Rivian Pre-order holder process !

Excitement of placing a deposit --> Drinking the Rivian Kool aid --> Constant Disappointments -> Finally realizing Rivian is there just to make money and nothing else !

I’m in the exact same boat as OP when I comes to reservation date and delivery windows but I live in CA Bay Area. Probably the most EV friendly place in the country with 2 service centers within 30-60 mins of me.
The delivery push out has nothing to do with location and 100% to do with profits. They want us to get frustrated and cancel our orders. Anyone who thinks otherwise is delusional. Like all other manufacturers, Rivian doesn’t care about customers, they care about profits and staying in business
Wow I am a 2021 reservation holder and my window is in Q3 2023 and I live in alameda county, What is your configuration?

Unrelated story. I remember years ago, my roller derby team used to practice regularly at a local skating rink. We paid for a spot to practice after-hours, and all that.

Well, one day they decided they weren't going to let people skate derby there anymore. Not the end of the world, but there was no discussion, no communication, just a "bend over and take it up the a**" kind of decision. I guess our money wasn't good enough for them. And one of my teammates said "I'm going to do the only thing I can do - unlike them on Facebook".

Sometimes doing the only thing you can do still feels like some minor victory. ?

...but what company does not make DATE OF ORDER the main priority?
Ford, Tesla, Rivian, Arcimoto. And those are just the ones I know about from direct personal experience.
