I own a Ford Raptor, so if what he says holds true, then that would be a downgrade depending on how big the difference is.

How adjustable is the suspension in the Raptor?

Yeah for some stuff I think the Raptor suspension will be better but air suspension has it's pros too, but depends what specifically he thought was weak(like baja or road driving). Raptor is a great truck though!

Yeah this is the opinion of a lot of people who have reviewed the R1T. Having driven one for 25 minutes, I am in agreement with him.

But I'm still on the fence about owning one long term. We'll see. For now, reservation stands with the quad motor truck. By the time my July-September window comes around and they reach out I'll make a more thoughtful decision.

I haven't driven a Raptor - but friends have them. Obviously you can speak to this better, but I don't think anyone has delivered a truck that is set up with more Baja style high speed suspension than the Raptor (and maybe now the TRX). So that will always make the Raptor unique. I think the Rivian is set up more like the lower speed off road SUVs like a Land Cruiser or Range Rover etc.

I'm just worried about it being a possible downgrade. If the Rivian rides fairly well and the suspension doesn't feel like an after thought then it will be fine by me.

Hard to say for me - in theory it's a pretty insane suspension setup. Should be a jack of all trades where raptor is probably good in a few specific ways, but that's just theory. You can ask Jason and he may clarify vs raptor strengths/weaknesses

The R1T suspension is where the opinions are all over the place.

Cammisa calls it the weak point in an otherwise crazy positive review.

Meanwhile Carlos Lago at C&D says it rides like a luxury sedan.

I’m coming from a GTI and MINI Cooper so I’m sure the R1T will be plenty comfy for me.

one Other point in rivian’s favour is new damping profiles are an OTA update away.

I’ve had three MINIs, currently have a focus RS(with DSC Sport suspension controller which calms the focus’ spine breaking damping). I went from hammering the focus down back roads from Petaluma to Sears Point to get there in time for my first mile drive slot straight into the driver’s seat of an R1T….

The R1T drives like a sport sedan, not a 7000lb truck on 34” all terrain tires. It’s so good. Suspension is a magic carpet.

Combining these suss comments and those of TRL post snow vid, sounds like adding two settings between low-medium-high will do it.

I hadn’t heard about the OTA update for damping profiles. Do you have a link for more info? Will there be a custom drive setting with user settings for dampers, ride height, pedal response, regen etc?

Glad to hear your thoughts on the ride quality…Looking forward to a comfort leaning ride afterfeeling Every single bump for my whole life!

They haven't mentioned specific releases for that, but the vehicle is absolutely capable of that. All drive modes currently installed have their own profiles for all of those. New updates and drive modes could conceivably add or modify those profiles.

no link. But they have alluded to such things happening in future(I.e. when talking about drove modes being available through the rivian membership)

With it being air suspension too, they can even tweak spring rates OTA
