I think Rivian unlocking happens only after car’s waking up. Rivian’s wake-up is very unpredictable sometimes taking much longer than others.
This morning, my gen2 R1S unlocked before the main HV contactors were connected. I'm not sure I've ever noticed it happen in that order before.

Today I discovered a concerning bug while driving in a rainy commute home. For some frivolous reason I got a warning messages to Hold The Steering wheel but I was already holding it firmly. Anyways the message startled me a bit and I instinctively tapped the breaks to disengage Highway Assist and it didn't work. So in the brief moment the warning message going off Highway Assist was stuck on in my 23 R1T LE

If it happens again try to flick gear stalk outwards to see if it cancels it.

The Gen1 is up/down, not in/out like Gen2.
SO, similar advice, but different execution (press up) ;)

I've only had some minor issues with the software up until the last update that went live like 3 weeks ago. Ever since then, both my driver info screen & infotainment reset themselves constantly. During a 10 minute drive, it will happen 3-5 times. I tried everything, resets, unplug USB devices, unpair phone, turn off wifi/bluetooth/hotspot.

I called Rivian a few weeks ago about it and insisted that they do everything possible to make this an OTA or mobile tech fix. After a few different back and forths (them ignoring me), I finally got the service center to call me. I timestamped the incident happening, they checked it out, and want me to bring it in. The 5 times I've brought it in prior, it takes them a minimum of 5 business days to even start looking at the car. And they'll likely put me in something like a Toyota Camry again.

Really frustrating.

We're having about the same experience as @coffee_beans.

Since 2025.34.01, our 2023 R1S has blanked out driver's screen (except for speed indicator); center screen; or both about every five minutes. We've also lost all devices' ability to connect with R1S via Hotspot or Bluetooth. Resets didn't help the screen resetting. I don't know whether resetting will fix the Hotspot and Bluetooth.

Working with Service, but these forums are leading me to think mine isn't a vehicle-specific problem.

Thanks, everyone!

That’s no fun but if they’re putting you in a rental ask politely if they can get you in a comparable vehicle. I may have just gotten lucky, or they were less strict in the early days with rentals, but the one time I had a rental they got me into a Lucid Air for the few days my truck was in service.

I'm confident that Rivian can and will make my problem right -- the one stated in message #126 above -- but it may take a few weeks of analysis and I may need to wait a month or more for the software fix.

Meantime, our Rivians operate safely, even though their information capabilities are reduced.

I want all our Rivian functions to work right, of course -- but I'd rather have an R1S with stuttering ACC/navigation, no hotspot, and no bluetooth than any ICE vehicle I know.

Best to all!

Yeah, I have to disagree. I’m not going to give Rivian a pass on this. They need to make sure they have the best and most stable software. Else, forget about ICE cars. You will have better EVs with better software. Competition will keep ramping up.

My car takes me places. Takes me on adventures. I can’t have it randomly turn off the screens lol.

Push Rivian to be better. Don’t let off the “gas”

Have you considered that you have a hardware problem? When my AXM module was failing, I experienced all sorts of software glitches. My father’s truck did too.

Things have been back to “normal” for the most part since the replacement (along with a whole bunch of other work on its 6th long stay at the SC—a rant for another thread 🙄).

Certainly willing to consider that, @onesoil. Apparently mine is the only vehicle that Portland SC knows about with this problem. My wife reports that our R1T (primarily her car) isn't doing anything similar. Portland was planning to review the videos and advise.

Thanks for the feedback!

What you say is also true, @Hereforthesnacks. Rivian needs to improve. And I'm happy with Rivian overall.

I'll keep working with them. Right now the situation seems to call for cheerful persistence. If that doesn't work, maybe a different attitude will be more helpful.

I don't know how I would tell if this were a hardware glitch such as AXM module, but the R1S has had intermittent ACC hiccups since the day we picked it up. The current diagnostic process should help both me and Rivian.

Very best wishes!

Log some diagnostic reports too and then ask them to review the logs. Mine was diagnosed by a remote tech who saw thermal spiking in the module, which is liquid cooled. This all started when I had intermittent lack of proximity sensing (which eventually became constant). The mobile tech replaced a parking sensor in the bumper based off of codes the truck was throwing, but then he got word from a remote diagnostician that it was actually a failing AXM module, which is one of the main computers that runs the infotainment, among other things (at least, that’s my understanding).

Apparently remote diagnostics and field techs don’t have access to the same logs/information (a point of frustration expressed by our mobile tech). So plugging in to the truck doesn’t always capture everything that’s logged in a diagnostic report and vice versa.

I have one question. Why every time you touch ridged spot to open charge door it opens. But when you touch dimple on door handle the result is unpredictable. Sometimes it unlock right away, sometimes it’ll delay for a while and sometimes it refuses to budge until you hit unlock in app.

I don't get why we can't have some things standard. Some legacy things should stay legacy BECAUSE THEY freaking work!. I'm most irked about the prox lock unlock, and the random soft resets while driving.
