I've been this close for a while now to getting myself some form of Gary for either living in the truck or in my RV. Thanks for driving me even closer!
Just try not to let Gary take his shorts off like I did.

Nothing wrong with Rivian headlights. Original design, I find them extremely useful. Work extremely wel also. New matrix headlights that my R1S does not have=gimmicky, worthless diminishing returns at best. ...
Dude. You can't appreciate the matrix headlights until you actually drive with them at night. Amazing. They light up places standard headlights never could.

Look at how the lights curve around the traffic, lighting up the road all the way almost to the cars in front, and all around them on the left and right. It's amazing.

It's like a little piece of Europe. I thought these were gimmicks until I used them - and am fully sold. They do have this amazing habit of spotlighting the most reflective road signs they can find though 🤣

They might very well be. What I am saying is that there is (for me) absolutely nothing wrong with the "regular" headlights on my R1S Gen 1. Set in Auto mode, they light up the road ahead plenty on high beam.
It looks like another so-called great thing about upgrading to a Gen 2. Ok, a little more hp, allegedly better suspension (whatever that means), and matrix LED highlights, etc. All that for north of $50k drained out of my savings plus my R1S Gen 1. No, thanks.

The headlights in our gen1 are the best headlights I’d ever had, until we got the gen2. driving them back to back - would I upgrade to get them: no, are they better: yes. There are a lot of things about gen2 I dislike and prefer on gen1: doors, door handles, indicator asthetic, charge port cover construction, charge port led, etc. Gen2 also has psudo zonal arch - where they stuff three controllers into a single box for example (one day I may write about this). But headlights, they actually improved and are worthy of being called gen2. Cannot comment on suspension - if It’s better in the T I can’t tell as moving from 21 to 22 wheels made a huge difference to the feel in general.

OK why do 75% of truckers on a dark 70mph two lane highway flash their brights at me to dim my brights?
Also the reflective white signs on the right shoulder are illuminated to a glaringly bright level.

Not sure if this is hardware, software or operator error. Just set to the default automatic should work.

Makes me wonder if the Rivian engineers are even driving these vehicles.

The pest mascot, such childish garbage has no meaningful, useful purpose whatsoever. I guess were I five years old, I might get it.
Can't speak for all other manufacturers; don't know much about them, but not one of them comes to mind having such a silly, infantile pet mascot cartoon. If anything, this thing can make an average reasonable person not take Rivian seriously.

Can't recall ever paying attention to service centers of other manufacturers or finding them lacking somehow because of the decor. The Rivian service center I visited already is a generic, plain vanilla type. And it serves the purpose just fine. So do the Tesla service centers I have visited. Each one concentrates and is well adapted to the business at hand without gimmicks or cartoon characters.

And I for one will take anytime, any day, a service center that concentrates not on the design space and meeting some sort of appeal, but rather one that gets the job done right, and at the same time provides me not only with a loaner always but on top of that also gives me free electricity for it. That is what matters to me, useful stuff. Not some stupid, worthless cartoon that does nothing.
Style and design matter to those of us with taste.

While I never have seen the issues you mentioned, the software issues that I do see make it clear how painfully inferior and subpar Rivian software integration is compared to Teslas and perhaps other EVs (no experience with the latter).
I have a Ford and a GM in addition to the Rivian. I would put the Rivian software in the middle, GM is the best for me.

My Mach E had many bugs when it first came out, but most of those have been fixed. There UI is pretty slow and they lack features such as customizable driver displays. BlueCrusie is pretty good, better than Rivian. There nav system has fallen behind it is homegrown, as an example, they were the first to get Tesla access, but still do not have Tesla chargers in the nav. There PAAK is better than Rivian, in my experience.

GM software is very stable, with very few bugs from the beginning. I had a couple of recurring bugs, but those got fixed with an early update. They also have more features, like customizable displays, better charge scheduling, better trailering app, the best navigation, etc. They also do not spend any time developing nav or streaming software, they run the same Google maps as the phone and also the streaming apps are all third party software from the Google Playstore. GM realizes they are a car company and leave that to the experts in those fields. But the integration of those apps just works, and they have so many apps available that are not in Ford or Rivian, Waze, Plugshare, ABRP, etc. The only two things about GM is that they do not support PAAK, and they also have a poor phone app compared to Rivian and Ford. My phone does not drive my vehicle, so I do not care. They are working on supporting Apple Car Key. Of course SuperCruise is way better than Ford and Rivian.

I do see recurring bugs in my Rivian, most are minor, but I do reset the infotainment much more often than my Ford or GM to resolve issues. I also do not understand why Rivian choose to do a half ass attempt at Google maps, just load the real Google navigation software, it works.

Tesla service centers have plenty of style, but ultimately that is chaff in the grand scheme of things also. What matters to me is the service provided and done right. Style does not make my EV better. fixing it correctly does. I submit that the so-called style cartoon Rivian rubbish character accomplishes absolutely nothing useful. Unless, of course, I were a five year old, and even that would be iffy at best.

Maybe it is just I, but never in my life did I think, oh, man,, that car company is so stylish; that company facilities are so stylish, gotta get me one of its cars because of that. C'mon, man!

I’ve definitely experienced more glitches in my Gen 2 than Gen 1 and I assume it’s due to the platform change, more features, and the SW team possibly spread thin. None of it has left me stranded or my car from serving its purpose.

I appreciate what Rivian is doing and see the SW as a plus. So refreshing vs all the years of legacy automakers and their boring approach. Have you seen Fords OS??

Regarding Tesla, yes, they have a good platform but can we stop comparing everything to it? Let’s appreciate there’s a manufacturer taking a swing here and making it feel like we’re actually in 2025 vs 2005.

Yes!
My Rivian, my Teslas have the brights set to Auto dimming. Set up and forget. They all work beautifully.

I will buy another Rivian solely because the Rivian service center or space in (enter location) is so stylish and beautiful, That's what''s extremely important to me. ROFLMAO!
