Have been using this on for a while now for 2 Specialized Turbo bikes, but wanted a setup for 4 bikes. Kuat makes this extensible hitch rack for 2 bikes with an optional 2 bike extension that can easily be removed with 2 screws and a cable disconnect. Also wanted a setup with lights. Because of the 2+2 setup it has up to four lights when using with the 2 bike extension.

The first 2 bikes are rated up to 67 lbs the extra 2 are for 40 lbs each. A Specialized Turbo Levo Allow comes in at about 50 lbs each with the battery installed.

The Pivot V2 allows the entire setup to swing out to one side of the car (has to be picked at time of purchase - I went with passenger side). With that you retain full easy access to the bed.

Otherwise the bed gate will not open fully as it would hit the Piston Pro X.

Very sturdy setup, very little sway and been on dirt roads without worrying about the bikes in the rear. As one might expect cameras are limited and once plugged in the truck senses a trailer - that can be changed to an accessory - unfortunately on every drive.

Only thing I don't like is that Küat and Yakima/Rivian use different keys. No way to get them all o the same key.

Looks great.

Related to this is anyone aware of something similar that accommodates more than 4? Could you do 2+2+2 if you added a 3rd set?

My younger children are small enough that their bikes fit in the frunk but at some point soon that isn't going to work anymore and a 4 bike rack isn't going to cut it.

Nope and I guess it would quickly become a physics challenge. Increased length and extra weight would prohibit much of that. Even on this 2+2 setup the 2 extra bikes are already derated to 40 lbs each.
This particular setup is not stackable as the bolts can only go into the base unit.

I pressed send prematurely! A trailer is a totally different animal but these are incredibly lightweight and well built. Easy one person on and off. I share one with a group and love it. Have a Kuat 2 up rack with a pivot also.

Do check the weight specs though. 225 is the limit on the Yakima. 20 lbs more than the Kuat 4 bike setup. Not a problem with normal bikes, but e-bikes might be too heavy for that. Also check the handlebar clearance. Might have to loosen the bars and twist them in order to stack the bikes so closely.

If you’re looking for more than 4 bikes, see: ‘Alta Racks’
Can fit 6 to 8 bikes. Rock solid stability.
There’s other similar ‘vertical bike racks’. I chose Alta b/c it was the strongest of the bunch & it’s storage rack allows for bike storage & rolls around my garage as well.

‘Tongue weight’ on the hitch rack above limits weight & # of bikes to 4.

I'm so jealous of your setup. Kuat makes some phenomenally well constructed racks and they stand behind them post purchase which is rare these days. That bed top rack as well, is a great idea.

You absolutely have to turn two handlebars 90 degrees if you transport 4 bikes with the Kuat piston pro x. We tried to avoid it but the setup with the shifters on the right and the dropper post lever on the left, you are bound to hit each other. I haven’t mounted my 2+2 on my R1S yet but that’s my experience with my previous Volvo XC90.
