I have a key fob that I just replaced the battery on. It worked after having the battery replaced, and then I didn't use it for several days. Now it won't work no matter what I click.

I checked both the R1S screen and the app and it still shows the key fob under my name. The app also shows that the battery is full. How do I "reset" the fob and get it to work?

The main reason to use the fob is on the way out from home to unlock the car (rather than fumble with the app) so that I can set proximity to "lock only" at home.

The FOB's are pretty particular on the battery. Some brands just don't last at all. If you go into your R1 and go to settings, Drivers & Keys, click on the driver the fob is associated with , then in the list of keys, the FOB should have a green bar on it if it is good. It should not look like this:

It does have a green bar on it. When I got the car ~45 days ago, it showed low battery so the delivery guy gave me an extra battery which I had to put in a couple of days later. Was working fine at the time.

I admit, I did miss where you said it showed it was full. So, that said, it's receiving data from the fob, otherwise it wouldn't know what the battery soc is. What I would start with is doing a full reset on the R1 followed by walking away for 20-30 minutes out of proximity range to allow it to sleep a few minutes. Full reset is left most steering button and hazards for 10 seconds. This is what the SC is going to have you do first if you call them, so may as well get that out of the way. It's amazing how many things are fixed with a power off/on cycle.

When I first got my vehicle, I was going through fob batteries every 3 weeks. Since about last summer, I haven't changed the battery and it has been much more responsive.

I would open a ticket in the app, or call customer service. The vehicle will update the fob firmware and CS can instruct you on how to make a service diagnostic capture so that they can review what's going on remotely.

The fobs are still finicky and everyone's experience is different. :(

I've had my R1S for 9 months and am a FOB user, and haven't had to change the original battery yet. Are you using a battery that has a bitterant coating on it? These are known to have issues with many devices/fobs.

No - since the battery was low at delivery, the Rivian delivery rep gave me a new battery to replace when needed. Good to know for the next replacement though. Which one do you use?

Let me try rebooting like @LivingInKaos suggested, and if that doesn't work I'll file a ticket. I have a mobile appointment coming up anyway, hopefully they can add this task if the reboot doesn't work.

Will keep you guys posted.

I use Toshiba or Panasonic. Perhaps something is wrong with your fob and you should have service look at it at your next appointment as you suggested. Good luck.

What changed so it last more than 3 weeks? This has been me since owning for 5 months. They suggested I drive(kinda far) to the service center to get a new fob, wouldn’t mail it

Honestly I'm not sure what changed exactly. I've always had it set to proximity lock when at home, no unlock, and proximity lock/unlock away from home. The last time I ordered some 2450's was July last year. I think since then there was maybe 1 key fob firmware update. Maybe that was it.

something I’ve noticed on the fob. The battery is kinda loosely seated in it’s socket. The key back has a square piece of foam that is supposed to keep the battery seated but I think that foam gets compressed as some point and isn’t up to the job.

I found that pressing on the back of the fob, can re-seat the battery and cause the fob to start working. If that does the trick, then look into getting something between the battery and the foam square to keep the battery seated.

Just got the fob back from service - it seems the battery ran out again. Brand new battery took just 3 months to drain with minimal use of the fob - quite worrying. Will ask for replacement if it happens again that quickly.

Thanks for this. I tried Panasonic and my FOB finally works. I never use it but it's handy for when I leave the truck with someone.
