The "slowness" of kneel mode made me get running boards instead. Me and my family are also "vertically challenged"
I got running boards also. I'm a short person. The running boards are excellent.

I always go into sport lowest as I'm getting closer to parking since everyone opens the door before kneel mode completes. Rivian should just offer running boards since it's the only complaint my passengers ever mention.

We have had Opal (our R1T) for almost two years. We have been using the "kneel" mode from the very beginning. It does take a few seconds for her to settled when we put her in park. As has been said, opening the door interrupts the kneel. If you make it a habit to put it in park immediately, the system works well. We also added running boards at the beginning.

It used to (I say used to as I’ve noticed it suddenly does start to kneel on my driveway that’s on a slope now) not kneel if the grade was too steep for it (not sure why) so that could be a factor - if you know it’s not going to kneel, you can work around this by selecting “Sport” a moment before arriving and it’ll go to its lowest height.
Yep, I’ve been putting it in sport mode for my wife

The mobile service tech who was here last week to swap out our 12V battery actually said the opposite when I asked if we'd regret using kneeling mode...He said that most Rivian owners rarely change their ride height and that the suspension system needs to be used regularly to keep things lubed and working properly. Kneeling does that, as does the auto-height adjustment if you have that turned on. FWIW
That's great to know because I've had it on auto (with kneel) since I got the car over a year ago. Cheers.

It would be nice to be able to shut the garage door while the truck is kneeling as well.
You can - but you have to use the screen icon instead of the steering wheel button.

Do you mean the center screen garage pull down? I just opened the door using the steering wheel, pulled in and parked. While I'm waiting to lower i need to take my hand off the button I just pushed and go into another screen on the center display to close the door? Or an I missing something?

Sorry - I do mean the center screen garage pull down...I didn't say it would be a good solution! I did it once, but my fingers are so calloused that I usually have to hit the stupid screen multiple times to get it to work properly, that I just wait for the kneeling to end and use the steering wheel button.

Kneel probably takes a few seconds, which is probably the same amount of time it takes to unbuckle ones seatbelt and grab ones cellphone.

Not saying it's a first world problem. But kneel from standard height on my truck takes way longer than getting prepared to get out.

Thought I'd post this observation here instead of starting a new post. In my previous Gen 1 R1T and my current Gen 1 R1S the kneeling function would never work when parked on a slight to steep incline including my driveway.

Not sure but I believe during the last update or before my R1S will now kneel on my driveway and many other sloped surfaces. Is this something that Rivian recently changed? Have not seen this mentioned in the update notes in the past?

BTW I do deliveries for Meals on Wheels so I pull into numerous different driveways with slopes and have always altered how and where I parked to ensure kneeling kicking in. Totally enjoying the feature working all the time now.

Thank you all for the replies. I now wait a few moments before opening the door and Kneel Mode works great. My wife is very happy now and you know what that means!
