I’m curious what other people are seeing here - how much electricity is being used to charge your vehicle, vs how much is your vehicle storing? Here’s a data point on charging last night with the Rivian L2 Wall Charger:

Rivian App: 42KwH Added over 5 hours @ 11KW/hr
Tesla Power Monitoring of our home usage: 11.5kw/hr over 5 hours - 57.5KwH
Percentage of Power Delivered vs Power Used: 73% efficiency (27% loss?)

I’m totally aware that there are inefficiencies and losses converting the 220V -> 400V… I’m not complaining right now - but I am curious if this is in-line with what other people are seeing?

I am also curious if anyone’s tested charging at a slower rate and whether or not that improves the efficiency numbers. I may try this the next time I drive a decent amount and can get a good comparison.

(edited, added note below):

I should add - the car is stored outside. Last night we were in the ~40’s at the coolest point. So .. cold-ish? Not freezing by any means. We’re in the SF Bay Area so the climate is pretty temperate.

I'm having the opposite scenario, to my disadvantage.

My utility provider calculates from my wall charger how much it has used during off peak hours, and then deducts that from my electric bill, allowing me to have free off peak charging.

The Rivian app is reporting receiving MORE than the charger is reporting it has dispensed.

Because of this, there is electricity the vehicle is consuming that I am paying for even though it should not be billed. Makes me wonder if the utility company has these wall chargers configured somehow to under report.

Either that or the Rivian app is over reporting.
