Picked up my R1S Gen1 Quad a little over a week ago.

At delivery, numerous defects with the "factory installed" PPF were noted. Rivian guide had me send an email to XPEL claiming warranty. XPEL says some of the defects are Rivian's fault. Ugh, sucks to be put in the middle of a finger pointing match. Found an actual paint defect in an area where there is no PPF. The defect was actually marked with a post-it note nmarker, but no one apparently thought they should actually address the issue(or at least remove the post-it to try to hide it better) before delivering the vehicle to me. Since these were cosmetic defects only I agreed to accept delivery after being assured that fixing them would be prioritized, more on that below.

In the first week I've also discovered some horrible passenger window noise that begins at ~40mph, and found that neither the front nor rear windshield washers work at all. I made sure that the fluid reservoir is full. Still nothing comes out. I remember thinking to myself at delivery that I should check them, but decided against it because I didn't want to get my perfectly clean windshield wet when I didn't need to. Big mistake.

First available service appointment was March. Rivian guide said to call and they would prioritize me. Apparently them pulling it into February is being prioritized. Absolutely absurd to spend $95k on a vehicle that has so many issues, and the manufacturer won't even attempt to address for 2 months. Rivian service suggested to me on the phone that I should just stop at a gas station every so often to use their windsheild cleaner/squeegee, and didn't seem very concerned that my wife will not ride in the vehicle due to the offensive noise from the passenger window right by her ear!

What have I gotten myself into? Please tell me that I wont spend the majority of my 36 month lease with unresolved issues, waiting months for a service appointment.

I would agree, the windshield washer issue especially, is unacceptable. Press the issue with Rivian service. I would say be polite and understanding that the person you're complaining to on the phone has little control over how your car was delivered, but does have some power to push it up and make it right.

Sorry this soured your initial experience.

You won't, service is in quite a state, but they should get you sorted and then you should have a mostly trouble free truck. Obviously, there are exceptions out there, but it seems most have pretty reliable vehicles.

I made an appointment, and a tech is coming tomorrow, two weeks after I made it. I initially scheduled for February, but when they called to discuss it, I requested mobile service. I've always had good luck with expedient mobile service. Whether or not they will be able to fix my issues is anyone's guess at this point but I will know more tomorrow.

What issues have you had with your 2025 model?

Rattle inside front passenger door card. It's not a big rattle and doesn't happen all the time but shouldn't at all. Rear defroster is giving strange error messages too. I will see what is up with that tomorrow not sure if it's hardware or software.

I second the approach to politely engage Rivian. I had a very very small dent on the driver's door at delivery. Rivian took a couple of months and fixed it. My friend had issues with the Xpel in some places. Both Rivian and Xpel stepped up. It is very frustrating and I hope it all works out for you so you can get back to the business of enjoying the car. Cheers.

sorry to hear you’re dealing with these issues. Although, glad to see that you found the Gen 1 Quad lease deal you were looking for. What specs did you end up with?

Apparently I got the spec that doesn't have working windshield washers! :)

I see you’re in southern CA. If non-functioning WW fluid washers happened anywhere up north, (I am in Chicago) this would pose a major safety hazard. Up here when the highways are wet and salty and the snow has stopped coming down, it’s not uncommon for the salt spray to haze over the windshield quickly every few minutes. What if you needed to take a road trip for the holidays?

Indeed, I am planning to take a trip to the mountains over the holidays, hence my concern.

Keep talking with Rivian representatives, @tjrivian, until you find one who understands what a serious safety issue it is to lack a working windshield washer.

This isn't just far below reasonable safety standards -- it is far below Rivian's usual standards, as I perceive them.

As @MountainBikeDude recommended above, be polite to everyone. But you should hold Rivian to reasonable safety standards and a prompt repair of the windshield washer, especially before you travel outside sunny SoCal.

If they are physically unable to repair your windshield washer promptly, ask for a suitable loaner/rental for your planned trip.

Very best wishes!

I've had my Quad G1 R1S since June. It's been "in service" for 3 out of those 6.5 months.

For those 3 months in service, they probably worked on the vehicle for 1-2 weeks. I could always tell when they were actually working on it because they would post updates on the app for the service line items. I also have a lease - I like driving it, but I am absolutely glad I will be giving this thing back.

The biggest issue, which sounds like you might have as well, is this thing whistles at 40+ mph. In comparison, my wife's Yukon has much better sound dampening and quality control.

The kicker? No loaner. Let me clarify: I did have a loaner for 2 days (also G1 Quad R1S), but that thing dumped its hydraulic fluid in my driveway and died shortly after I picked it up. Been driving a 2024 GMC Terrain around for 3.5 months...

Good luck.
