LE R2 No More Backlog

I don’t know the selection criteria Rivian uses for invites other that what they say and has been discussed here and elsewhere. But I am a 3/7/24 @1:39 PM ET reservation holder who got aug-sept window in june 30 email, 8/11 invite and invite for coastal cloud order today, so I’m lucky (ordered today). But based on Rivian emails and suspicions about how Rivian chooses invites i would guess additional facotors beyond choosing “definitely plan to order R2” in rivian app include:

-Demo drive record (i did two, one before 6/30)
-How many times you go to Rivian app to ‘explore’
-Putting at least one LE configuration in favorites
-Followeing links in R2 promotional emails

Maybe makes no difference but i did all of these things (a lot).

I know that is the spiel that Rivian has been telling us to allay our concerns about everything being done haphazardly... but I'm not buying the company line anymore.

The actual selection process feels more random. To me it's like if the Rivian folks pull their heads out of their asses and see their shadow, then it's six more weeks without an R2...

Conspiracies are a dime a dozen. Unless you have a source inside Rivian your speculation isn't convincing. You and the rest of us have zero access to the numbers, and the decision-making process that determines how they are doing it, and they have zero reason to lie about it.

I took delivery of my R2 last Friday at the Oklahoma City SC. I was their third delivery. It was 2.5 weeks from order to delivery. My choice of location was no doubt instrumental in rapid delivery. Those living on the coasts or urban areas with high EV adoption rates appear to have longer waits. My R2 was delivered to the SC by truck…so train logistics were avoided.

OKC does delivery/pickup? I test drove the R2 in KC in early July and they said OKC doesn’t do deliveries. That would be great for me in the Tulsa area.

I put my reservation in within the first 10 minutes back on March 7, 2024. Still waiting. I've been on the "4 to 8 weeks" to receive invite now for about 6 weeks. Not a current Rivian owner but I'm within 25 minutes of a service center. I can only play with the configurator so much! I've reached out to Rivian a couple of times and they just tell me "soon, likely a few days" ... and yeah, I don't expect the support folks to be able to actually tell me but it is getting frustrating seeing others who placed reservations long after I did taking delivery (no, I don't blame them...just jealous, ha).

Reserved on June 9th a LE R2 in LG. Said Nov-Dec 2026.

Took delivery of a R1S last Thursday. My R2 invite to order date was just moved up to Sep-Oct yesterday.

Seems to be a more relaxed launch. People aren't chasing delivery trucks and checking vins.

I said i would report back when the invite came. I placed a new reservation on June 16 and today, exactly 9 weeks later, I was invited to order a launch edition. So I think we can call it. The original reservation backlog is now done (at least for the launch edition). It took a few weeks longer than I would.

I also got invite Aug 18 and ordered LE with Coastal interior (Been waiting for the interior to drop). Subscribed on opening day in 2024. No word on projected delivery window.

I appreciate the “wait”. My order window is for Nov-Dec.
The wait has calmed the excitement and made room for a more objective/non emotional decision. It also has allowed me time to read reviews.
As of today…I am less likely to follow thru with my reservation when the time comes for various reasons.

I’m in Wichita and equal distance between the Olathe location and OK City. I was assigned OK City. I think you can stipulate your delivery location when you order. OK City does not have demos or a sales floor.

I have a March 2025 reservation and a September-October invitation still . Don't think they're out of backlog but likely depends on lease status, location, phase of the moon, and a million other variables

Nope. March 7 2024 reservation, specified interest in LE Performance and still waiting.
I think it has everything to do with the service center and the volume of deliveries they can handle.

Took our 2nd test drive on Friday. Yesterday our invitation window moved up from November-December to September-October. Don't know if there is a correlation between the two events. Reservation was placed on June 10, 2026
