What’s even crazier is that Costa Mesa is basically the flagship Service Center given its proximity to Rivian HQ. I’m almost surprised that RJ doesn’t drop in there every week or two. If that’s what’s allowed to happen in their backyard, they need to get their heads back in the game. Just hire some contractors to detail/wash the cars, or at least take them to be washed down the street. This just isn’t that hard. Considering the cars are only coming from IL, not Europe or Asia, it should be covered by the destination charge.

so if I threaten them with the return policy, would they escalate this? I waited two years for this vehicle!

Would dropping by the center do anything? Anyone have a name I can contact by chance? Yes disappointing to say the least.
Posting to reddit seemed to change their tune for me. Called me within minutes.

Costa mesa is a bad service center IMHO (at least right now). The service associates are pretty nice, but overall it is a mess.

I had my R1S in for service at Costa Mesa about 3 months ago to address some minor issues that were present at delivery. I delivered my truck clean, received it back filthy with dried bird shit. One of their receptionist is also very rude most of the time, I believe his name is Joe. Definitely not a fan of that service center.
Yes, My truck was at the service center for 8 days (the actual repair only took 90 minutes).

It came back absolutely filthy.

Call the 800 number and ask to return the car as it was dirty and defective on delivery. You must do this with in the 7 day return window.

Yup! That’s Costa Mesa for ya. I felt like I bought a used car. Wait till you have to get service.

R1S Launch Edition
Hey Rivian Owners, I just got my R1S delivered on Saturday at the Costa Mesa Service Center. The experience was subpar. The car came dirty. There was dark smudges inside, and when I had mentioned it, they gave me Lysol wipes to clean up after myself. There was also a ton of dried leaves inside the vehicle. It’s almost as if they park the car under a tree with the windows open, but the issue is that it’s almost impossible to remove the dry leaves from underneath the window buttons. For a brand new vehicle, it was not delivered clean.

We felt rushed and being the last appointment of the day, it was getting dark so didn’t get everything we needed addressed. The next day, we noticed a small dent in the rear panel of the vehicle. I’ve brought this up to my guide who is deferring me to service and I’ve created a service ticket and been on the phone with the service team and the customer experience team and they have me scheduled for May 8. This is ridiculous, half a year out? Is there anything else I can do?

Reach out to your guide and the service center. They can expedite appointments for delivery related service concerns.

I had a similar experience in Orlando. I picked up my launch green R1S in October. Before picking up spoke with the service center to ensure there were no paint issues panel issues or anything not working before I sold my car and Uber 2 hrs to the service center. I was assured it was perfect no issues…this couldn’t be further from the truth. My car had a ton of paint issues whether scratches down to the metal, missing paint, paint boogers and even some deep scratches on the front fender. My rain sensor was not even adhered to the window which is a 1 time use adhesive and none of the usb ports worked in the center console. On November 17th Rivian came and picked up my vehicle for repainting panels and service issues. I still don’t have it back and it’s been over a month. I have elevated this to senior leadership at Rivian who finally called me yesterday to tell me they will be taking care of this and making it right to restore my confidence. I currently have a loaner and have the whole time which was nice but I have driven the loaner longer than my R1S. Will update when I have my vehicle back but so far can’t possibly be happy with this experience. Rivian has agreed the car should never have been presented for delivery in the condition it was. Rivian has seemed to care and has compassion during this ordeal and I’m hopeful they come through with rectifying my issues.

I picked my R1T up a week and a half ago at the Costa Mesa location and the car was detailed and in excellent condition. They also were very nice and took all the time I needed.

Update. Got the vehicle back. PDR addressed the dent. Could not address the door crease. Service team said this should have been caught pre delivery and they should have stopped delivery. They want to send to European Motor Car for repaint on the door and fade into the front door and rear fender. Not sure if I want to do this as this is supposed to be a brand new vehicle. Who wants to do body work?

What is more unbelievable is that we got more dents on the door jambs and door. This is a nightmare. Flawed delivery experience, bring in to fix and end up with more damages. At this point I’m asking them for a new vehicle to swap to.

Are you positive the dents on the door jambs and door itself are new from your service appointment? If I saw damage at appointment pickup that was not there before, I'd refuse the work until they resolve new issues.

On the other hand, the "should've been flagged at delivery" is correct, unfortunately. The vehicle was sold as-is. If I discovered a dent on my Bronco after leaving the dealership, they would've told me to get lost or pay up for the repair. At least the service center is making right by you on the first dent.

Yes. Did a thorough walk through and know what’s there and what’s not there.
