I have twin girls who started their freshman year (one at Penn State, the other at Ohio State - lucky me) and we loaded our R1S to the gills with their stuff, but it all fit! Thankfully I only needed to have room for one of them in the car.

@James Connolly - One of my other daughters graduated from UVM in 2017 and then worked there for 5 years while they paid for her Master's. We loved visiting Burlington. Her older sister (yes - I've been blessed with four daughters) went to Clark in Worcester and we didn't visit there very often.

@dradam - My wife couldn't believe I made it all fit - including the two 3-drawer units behind the driver. It's crazy what the R1S holds inside! We have friends who have twin boys the same age as our twins and they have a Suburban - I think the R1S holds more when you load the frunk and sub-trunk. I'm hoping that some stuff comes home before the end of spring semester so that I'm not out in a parking lot trying to squeeze everything in. At least at home I had the luxury of time and a garage - Penn State gives you 20-minutes to load or you get a parking ticket!

My name is Mike, and I have a (car) problem
You did better than me. With the mini frig (which was maximally-mini - the biggest size I think Whirlpool makes without just calling it a "refrigerator") my S was packed.

Had my wife and son in the S while my college kid took her Miata, which was stuffed to gills with a small cooler, a day bag, and a bottle of water.

Having two daughters go out of state (one FSU, the other Oklahoma State), I’m going to say that you’ll likely be in the parking lot throwing most of it into the dumpster…

One of my all-time favorite opening scenes in a novel is Don DeLillo's "White Noise." As a long-time academician, I love "the day of the station wagons":

"The station wagons arrived at noon, a long shining line that coursed through the west campus. In single file they eased around the orange I-beam sculpture and moved toward the dormitories. The roofs of the station wagons were loaded down with carefully secured suitcases full of light and heavy clothing; with boxes of blankets, boots and shoes, stationery and books, sheets, pillows, quilts; with rolled-up rugs and sleeping bags; with bicycles, skis, rucksacks, English and Western saddles, inflated rafts. As cars slowed to a crawl and stopped, students sprang out and raced to the rear doors to begin removing the objects inside; the stereo sets, radios, personal computers; small refrigerators and table ranges; the cartons of phonograph records and cassettes; the hairdryers and styling irons; the tennis rackets, soccer balls, hockey and lacrosse sticks, bows and arrows; the controlled substances, the birth control pills and devices; the junk food still in shopping bags - onion-and-garlic chips, nacho things, peanut creme patties, Waffelos and Kabooms, fruit chews and toffee popcorn; the Dum-Dum pops, the Mystic mints.

I've witnessed this spectacle every September for twenty-one years. It is a brilliant event, invariably. The students greet each other with comic cries and gestures of sodden collapse. Their summer has been bloated with criminal pleasures, as always. The parents stand sun-dazed near their automobiles, seeing images of themselves in every direction. The conscientious suntans. The well-made faces and wry looks. They feel a sense of renewal, of communal recognition. The women crisp and alert, in diet trim, knowing people's names. Their husbands content to measure out the time, distant but ungrudging, accomplished in parenthood, something about them suggesting massive insurance coverage. This assembly of station wagons, as much as anything they might do in the course of the year, more than formal liturgies or laws, tells the parents they are a collection of the like-minded and the spiritually akin, a people, a nation."

Thank you - as my father said when we told him of their college choices: "Now it doesn't matter who wins!"

We have four tickets for the game November 1st and I think my PSU daughter is going to grab some of her Blue Band friends and do a road trip to Columbus. Her sister will be sitting in the "Block O" student section, but they'll be able to spend some time together outside the game.

The most important thing tho is which team's fanbase does a better tailgate party before the game :)

Better than Michigan/OSU. That would have resulted in a fully fractured household! 😂

Big 10 for the win!

Oh hey this was me a couple weeks back. Just one kid, though, and we were able to get everything in with the second row still up.

My PSU daughter is in the marching band (the Blue Band), so tailgating is tough to plan - we could be feeding from 12 (like this past game) to 25 if she brings the rest of the clarinets to the tailgate. My wife is being strict about keeping the food simple - this past weekend was ham, egg, & cheese sandwiches for brunch and sloppy joes for dinner. This coming Saturday it's going to be breakfast burritos and burgers. She wouldn't let me do patty melts this time because of the need to toast the rye for a proper experience...
