Locked Out

Recently got locked out of our Gen 2 R1S with both phones inside! I always carry the card key but circumstances led to neither myself or my wife having the key with us (first time ever). We were 3 miles from home and stopped at a new can recycling business. We were both out of the car and I opened the back gate to load the recycling boxes etc. and closed it. Then I noticed the car was locked with both my Google phone and her Apple phone inside. I was having some issues with the PAAK before this. The business owner kindly drove me home to get the card key. Just be aware that it can happen so always take your card keys! I did all the usual vehicle and phone resets and it seems to be working better now. Guess we will set up the watches as a key now too

Yes I tested a similar use case before the recent update (before 2026.03.0)and yes my 2025 R1S locked me out too. We opened the R1S with my wife's Iphone. After 2026.03.0 the RIS will not lock if our iphone is in the vehicle. I have configured my apple watch as a key as well -but still keep the backup card in my wallet JIC.

Phone, key card in wallet, and watch with Rivian app. Too bad I can’t get my children to keep a key on their phone so they could unlock the truck remotely.

The annoying part is that this bug was recently introduced.

This happened to me for the first time last week, too! I was like -- what the?...

Now, anytime I leave my phone in the car, I try to remember to roll down the window.

Next time, you don't really need a ride to your house. Just call Rivian roadside assistance, verify yourself, and they can unlock it remotely.

I'm not saying I have this setup and have used it when locked out of my vehicle, but a backup keycard fits nicely in this (allegedly).
